Bored with the quiet life of the small town of Glamsbjerg, Denmark, two teenage brothers, Johan (vocals) and Gug (guitar), who were serious punk devotees, formed The Razor Blades in September of '79. During the following two years a long line of local musicians joined the band and very quickly left due to the group's radical ideas and music. By summer of '81 a stable line up would appear including another brother Martin on drums and their stepbrother Soren on bass. Around this time the band moved to the city of Odense, the "capital" of Funen and world famous as the birthplace of author Hans Christian Andersen. The Razor Blades became pioneers of the Funen punk scene and together with friend Henrik Bo Hansen (known under the girl's name of Yrsa), became the prime movers of what was to be talked about as the wildest and most extreme underground scene in Denmark.

In the beginning, the band played 70's style punk rock, but gradually under the influence of the swelling international hardcore punk scene the music speeded up and the attitude became more aggressive. At the same time Gug also played guitar in the even more extreme hardcore band that gave new meaning to the word "anarchy": Flere Døde Pansere ("More Dead Cops") with Yrsa as the drummer and mastermind. The Razor Blades were also involved in the first squats that took place in Odense in the beginning of the 80's, very much inspired by the ones in London, Berlin, and Copenhagen. The first was the squatting of Industripalæt, an old cultural building in Odense which was to be pulled down, in which bands played all night until driven from the building by an army of riot police with dogs. The band would go onto record a live studio demo in August of '82, a split 7" EP with Flere Døde Pansere in May of '83, and the Plastic Messiah 7" EP in January of '84.

In April 1984 the band had to put its activities on hold as Gug went to stay at a Danish folk high scool in Jutland, and soon bored with the limitations of the hardcore scene, musical as well as ideological, they used the opportunity to bury The Razor Blades and explore their growing interest in other musical genres.
