Description

This double LP combines two previously released albums by the Reverend Gary Davis.  These two albums had been recorded in 1960 and 1961, released by Prestige / Bluesville.  The tracks on this album are Reverend Davis' 'religious' tracks.  Davis, of course, is an immeasurably accomplished and influential guitarist, not to mention his lyrics and vocal stylings.  His 'rediscovery' was a direct influence on the 1960s folk guitarists, among them Dave Van Ronk, Roy Bookbinder, Rory Block, Stefan Grossman, to name a few.  This double album was released in 1972; this listing is an unknown reissue date.  One of his best known songs Samson and Delilah starts off the fun.  I am also partial to Death Don't Have No Mercy.  Vinyl is in superb shape.  Gatefold sleeve shows some wear, see photos.  Informative liner notes by Philip Elwood.  Fantasy – 24704
