When you think about the timeless and most essential vocals on the history of dance music, several names may come into your mind: Sinnamon, Bernard Fowler from NYC Peech Boys, Byron Stingily from Ten City, Robert Owens, Colonel Abrams, and of course, Chuck Roberts, the guy behind the seminal vocals about House Music (also called "My House).
Most of you may have heard Chuck Robert's acappella under the classic "Can You Feel It" by Fingers Inc, a project of Larry Heard.
In fact, Desire Records was the label through where Larry Heard had the opportunity to release "Can You Feel It" with the Chuck Roberts acappella, but the original by Chuck Roberts came out one year before, on this obscure release on Catch A Beat.
The arrangements and atmosphere on "Can You Feel It" by Fingers Inc. are far more sophisticated to go with "My House" acappella than "My House" by Rhythm Controll, but this single was the very first place where "My House" acappella by Chuck Roberts came out.
The lyrics are very Soulful, emotional - a sort of testament about House Music, the importance of Jack, the true spirit of the genre, and its Universal nature (as you can witness on its whole ouverture "In the beginning, there was Jack / and Jack had a groove / And from this groove came the grooves of all grooves / And while one day viciously throwing down on his box / Jack boldly declared "Let There Be House!" / And House music was born!(...)")
The list of artists of different genres that sampled this acappella on their productions is unbelieveable and nearly impossible to mention: House (The Creator), Techno (FEOS vs. M/S/O), Drum n' Bass (Doc Scott, Nu:Tone), Industrial(Revolting Cocks) are only some of those who made use of this magnificent piece of history.
