Description
Rhythm Steps – Herbie Kay and his Orchestra featuring Shiely Lloy and the Three Keys. This is a nice peppy track It was also in the Warner Cartoon "Coo Coo Nut Grove' in 1936. It's the song used in the dance sequence, as the Ben Bernie caricature announces that they will be "engaging in a bit of the light fantastic, etcera, etcera". I believe this was the only version commercially recorded.? B side is Little Precious One sung by King Harvey.
The Herbie Kay Orchestra attracted a large following during the 1930s and 1940s featuring popular college numbers played in sweet dance tempo. Though the group was initially based in the Chicago area it later toured nationally. Vocalists were King Harvey, Wynne Fair, Ellen Conner, and future screen legend Dorothy Lamour. The two were married in 1935. She remained with the orchestra until 1937, when she left for a full time career in Hollywood. The couple divorced in 1939.
This is a Columbia session from November of 1935. Disc is in wonderful condition.
