Rare Original 1st press UK 45" released in 1962 on the Black and Silver London Label. Cat: HLK 9552.Comes with original London sleeve which is in Excellent condition.
Barrett was an early fifties successful independent black record producer, influential in shaping the New York rhythm and blues sound. Barrett discovered or promoted Frankie Lymon & the Teenagers, the Chantels, Little Anthony & the Imperials, the Valentines, and the Three Degrees. He managed the Chantels in the 1950s, and later managed the Three Degrees from the early 1960s until the early 1980s, producing many of their albums, and conducting the orchestra at their live shows. As an artist, he is most famous for co-writing (with Leiber and Stoller) and recording, as Richie Barrett, the song "Some Other Guy".
These singles are part of a lovely collection of original English 45's brought to Australia over 30 years ago when an English couple migrated to Australia. An avid music fan this gentleman followed many of the bands in the day from the late 50's through the 60's seeing everyone from the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Chuck Berry, Animals, Yardbirds, Bo Diddley, Gene Vincent just to name a few. These singles are a great representation of his passion for rock N roll and the many artists who were playing at the time. Most of them are still with original record company paper sleeves and are all in amazing condition considering they are over 50 years old!! I look forward to listening and listing them for you over the next month...
