Description
Here’s an unknown artist acetate containing a hilarious surf-themed ballad in the teenage-tragedy vein of “Dead Man’s Curve.” It’s about a surfer called Rincon Bill who meets a sad end: “His board split in two as it bounced off his brain, and now he’s in heaven and immune to pain...” Later in the song, his surfer girlfriend perishes the same way: “While surfing one day she hit mach 3, they found her five miles away up in a tree.” In the final verse, they’re reunited and surfing in heaven. The disc actually contains four songs, the other three of which are all early 60s folk standards (including “The Ballad Of Harry Pollitt”), but “Rincon Bill” is clearly an original. The disc is from a studio called Wolverine Recording Company that evidently had locations in both Michigan and California. It plays at 45 rpm and is 10”.
