Robert Johnson - 1936-1937 Blues Legend (Smokestack UK LP) Private Press. Rare

	£ 21
	$		28

This is a UK original Mono LP pressing. This LP was Privately Pressed in the UK in the 1960's. It is not a Bootleg. It is actually listed in the UK "Record Collector" price guide. This LP was pressed in a very small numbers. Therefore, they are extremely rare nowadays. There are some issues with the sleeve. Please see below for more details.

The sleeve is printed on thick card & has a picture front cover. Interestingly, this is printed upside down in relation to the sleeve opening. The rear of the sleeve is blank. There is a flipback at the top & bottom edges of the rear sleeve. The bottom flipback, however, has been torn away (see photo). There is a typed information insert. This is printed on paper. It has a period generic polythene-lined inner sleeve. The record is pressed on thick vinyl & has textured "Smokestack" labels.

The tracks are:

Side 1:
1. I Believe I'll Dust My Broom
2. Sweet Home Chicago
3. Ramblin' On My Mind
4. Come On In My Kitchen
5. Phonograph Blues
6. They're Red Hot
7. Dead Shrimp Blues
8. Crossroad Blues

Side 2:
1. I'm A Steady Rollin' Mon
2. From Four Until Late
3. Little Queen Of Spades
4. Malted Milk
5. Drunken Hearted Man
6. Stop Breakin' Down Blues
7. Honeymoon Blues
8. Love In Vain

As stated, this LP was Privately Pressed in the mid to late 1960's by, and for, Blues enthusiasts. I'm not sure of the exact quantity pressed, but it would have been very low. This is one of the rarest UK Robert Johnson LP releases. A great LP too. The audio quality is also extremely good. I have some other rare & collectable UK Original 1960's & 1970's Rock, Folk & Blues LP's for sale too. So please see my other listings.

Sleeve: As stated, the front of the sleeve is printed upside down in relation to the sleeve opening. To rectify this, the previous owner has split the seam along the entirety of the bottom edge (see photo). This has torn the bottom flipback on the rear sleeve away too. There is also some mild clear tape staining along both the front & rear sleeve opening edges (see photo). The tape has long gone, but it has caused a few very small & minor rips at the sleeve opening edges. There is a 6 cm seam split on the top edge at the sleeve opening. There is also moderate to considerable rubbing wear to the top edge too. There is mild, very mild or more moderate rubbing wear on the spine edge on some areas too. There are a few small rips on the back sleeve too. These are not that noticeable against the white of the sleeve. Overall, Fair+ condition

Vinyl: There are some light, mild, very mild or very minor sleeve rubs which can only be seen under a strong light. There is a very small area of more moderate sleeve rubs, or surface rub marks, on Side 1. The inner sleeve, over time, has left some light, mild, very mild or very minor dull surface marks on some areas. These, again, can only be seen under a strong light. Overall, Very Good condition. There is a small area of light hairline scratches on Side 1's label (see photo). Otherwise, very mild spindle wear only. The company inner sleeve is in Very Good condition. There is some light, mild or very mild ringwear, fading & creasing. There are no seam splits.

The Information Insert is in Good++ condition. There are some light, mild or very mild creases & handling creases. There is a couple of very small tears at the top edge. There is a very mild tear at one corner tip area on the bottom edge.

I have fully play tested this LP. It plays Very Good to Very Good+ overall & Near Excellent in some places. There is some light, mild , very mild or very minor crackle in some quieter places. The audio quality does vary a little on some tracks. Obviously these recordings are from the 1930's. Overall, a very reasonable audio copy.
