Release number: AMPP 6001 L
Release year: originally released in 1978, this is a repressing from 1980 and part of the ‘Police Six Pack’ issued 30.05.80 and includes a printed insert with a large image and lyrics on the rear, and new labels printed showing the bands image, replacing the original A&M labels.
Rarity: this is a super rare set of signatures for this classic band! Signing detail is confirmed as:
Sting: lead and backing vocals, bass guitar, double bass, keyboards (1977–1986, 1992, 2003, 2007–2008). Sting has signed at 10 o’clock in a fine felt style pen, and I am grading this signature at 6.5/10 as there is a minor loss of definition and ink in the pen used. Sting signed this record sleeve at the Riverside Studios on 07.06.96, prior to recording ‘TFI Friday’.
Stewart Copeland: drums, percussion, backing vocals, keyboards (1977–1986, 1992, 2003, 2007–2008). Stuart has signed his initials in the centre of the sleeve in a fine black felt-style pen, and I am grading this signature at 8/10 for ink definition and coverage. Stuart signed this record sleeve at the BBC broadcasting House in London (date unknown).
Andy Summers: guitars, backing vocals, keyboards (1977–1986, 1992, 2003, 2007–2008). Andy has signed this record sleeve at 7 o’clock towards the base pf the sleeve with a large signature, and I am grading this signature at 8/10 for ink definition and coverage. Andy signed the record sleeve at Pizza Express, London, March 2001.
The location of the signings is included in a hand-written invoice from seller ‘Mr Sloane’ (Luiz Moruzzi) and will be provided with the record.
Condition: the conditions are noted as follows:
Record cover: the band were massive by 1980, and this record as part of the ‘Police Six Pack’ reached number 17 in the charts by June 1980. This cover with the all-important signatures is in excellent condition and has been well looked after. The fragile, thin semi-gloss paper sleeve has minor creasing only and tiny wear points to the corners, with no splits or tears. Minimal rubbing and minor age yellowing.
Special picture card: this is in thick paper coloured insert is in excellent condition, within minimal wear and very tiny corner ‘dinks’.
Diecut inner sleeve: the plain white thin paper sleeve is in excellent condition, within minimal creasing, minimal age yellowing and no splits. There is a tiny tear 2-3mm on the opening edge of the sleeve.
Vinyl record: the record is only very good minus condition with signs of moderate handling, marks and a moderate scratch affecting the first minute of play. This would amazing mounted and framed and glazed with the sleeve as in blue vinyl, but this is not a high standard ‘play grade’ vinyl disk.
Provenance: this item was purchased via lot 333 on 19.09.24 via Omega Auctions, a world class auction house that complete their own due diligence to ensure lines offered are genuine and authentic. Also included is the original invoice from the seller ‘Mr. Sloane’ outlined how and when the signatures were secured. A redacted copy of the Omega Auctions invoice will be provided as provenance of this super rare item.
