Description
Buddy Holly with the Three Tunes from his second Nashville sessions on July 22, 1956. Both sides Ting-A-Ling and Girl On My Mind ere recorded on this date. Sonny played rhythm and Buddy played some rhythm and played the guitar break (solo). This is the first Decca session that Buddy Holly sang and also played guitar. Accompanied by Sonny Curtis on rhythm and lead guitar, Don Guess on bass guitar and Jerry Allison on drums. Although these songs were recorded on July 22, 1956, they were not released until June 23, 1958. Between "Think It Over" and "Early In The Morning". Buddy must have taken a real liking to the guitar break on Ting-A-Ling because on February 24 and 25, 1957 he repeated it almost exactly on "That'll Be The Day". I guess to be fair and make a stab at honesty - Buddy did steal this solo from Hank Ballard and the Midnighters' 1955 song "Switchie Witchie Twitchie" on Federal. Regardless my opinion is that he did a better job on the solo done at Decca than the one he did at Petty's seven months later.
