Description

 Listen To Me was the first extended play 45 RPM record to be released under just Buddy Holly without also mentioning the Crickets.  This EP contains Buddy's second and third solo Coral releases.  Side 1 - Track 1 is "Listen To Me"; Track 2 is "Peggy Sue".  Side 2 Track 1 is "I'm Gonna Love You Too"; Track 2 is Everyday.  Odd to me is that "Everyday" was recorded on May 27, 1957 and the other three songs "Peggy Sue", "Listen To Me" and "I'm Gonna love You Too" weren't recorded till a month later on July 1, 1957.  This EP wasn't released until April 14, 1958.  Buddy Holly vocal and lead guitar, Niki Sullivan rhythm guitar, Jerry Allison drums (and knees) and Joe B. Mauldin bass guitar.  On "Everyday" Vi Petty played the celeste and Buddy, Jerry and Niki did the backing vocals.  On "Peggy Sue" the extent of Niki Sullivan's guitar work consisted of kneeling in front of Buddy while he played the rhythm and sang and then switching the selector from "rhythm" to the "lead" position so Buddy could play the break (or solo) and then Niki switched the selector switch back to the rhythm position after the solo so Buddy could finish the song.  That is not as silly as it sounds as Buddy played only down strokes on the vocal parts making it extremely difficult to flip the selector switch, change rhythm for the lead and then change rhythm again and move the selector switch back up to the rhythm position without loosing the groove.  If you don't believe me listen to take one and you can see that is exactly what he did.  Conversely , when they played "Peggy Sue" live as on TV Buddy just played the whole song in the treble or lead position making it unnecessary to change pickup selection.
