“Sunglasses After Dark”/“Teen Age Bug” Dwight Pullen Carlton 455 blue label promotional copy - 1958
Alabama-born singer-guitarist Dwight “Whitey” Pullen (1931-1961) recorded this classic single for Joe Carlton’s Carlton label in early 1958.
Despite the fact that he died from prostate cancer at the young age of 30, Pullen’s brief career in the country and rock’n’roll fields produced these two first-rate sides. “Sunglasses After Dark” and “Teen Age Bug” were released in the late winter of 1958.
Vinyl: The vinyl is in very good (VG) condition and has been cleaned in an ultrasonic record cleaner. There are plenty of surface marks but no sustained pops or ticks and no skips.
Labels: “Sunglasses” has an arrow in pencil pointing toward the title, probably marked by the original disc jockey. There is a small X in blue ink above the artist name. On the B side, M. P. Is written in blue ink. There are no tags, stickers, or label tears.
Sleeve: Original Carlton company sleeve. The side seams are intact, there are a couple of small tears, stickers, and ink marks.
Provenance: This copy comes from the collection of longtime disc jockey and rockabilly collector Bill Clark in Massachusetts who died in 2024.
