Mount Vernon Music (157) album release from RED McCOY with the SONS OF THE SOIL titled COUNTRY & GOSPEL.
Great budget label release noted for its Rockabilly tracks. The artists real name was WAYNE BUSBICE who recorded a number of rockin' country and rockabilly tracks on Virginia and DC labels, Ott and Empire (as WAYNE BUSBY), in the late 50's to early 60's. Side One has his gospel sides but side two features most of his Empire tracks.
The highlight is ROCK 'N' ROLL ATOM although certainly not the only reason to bid on the LP. The song has shown up on a number of comps through the years but is a different, and most feel an inferior, version. For some unknown reason, there was not a 45 release so this is the only way to get it on vinyl (not sure but probably CD also). Other Side Two tracks did get an Empire 45 or EP release and have fetched $100+.
MVM was a very budget label so the vinyl is always difficult to grade as they weren't the best quality pressings and most weren't in an inner sleeve. If you bought a new one and it was in VG+ when you opened it, you were ahead of the game. I'll grade this as a visual VG as the vinyl is a little hazy but there are only a few light marks and no scratches with clean labels. Also, the jacket is better than can be expected for the label with no wear or seam splits. We've included three sound clips taken directly from the LP tracked at two grams. You can hear it's a great player with a lot of the punch you'd expect from the 45 versions.
