Description

This listing is NOT for an album! This listing is for a roll of (10) AUTHENTIC 1975 hype stickers from the Pink Floyd Wish You Were Here (WYWH) 1st pressing album cover. These are the actual hype stickers used for the WYWH album cover! Definitely a must-have for your Pink Floyd collection. What makes these stickers so rare? In 1975, these stickers were put on the blue shrink wrap outside of the sealed WYWH record album. Stickers are UNUSED and in MINT condition!
I've been collecting Pink Floyd memorabilia for nearly 25 years and this is one of the coolest collectibles that I've ever seen. Each sticker measures 4 5/8 inches in diameter and is backed on thin parchment-like paper that stickers are usually backed on. The stickers show the mechanical handshake, four elements, and the words, "Pink Floyd Wish You Were Here." If you have Wish You Were Here on vinyl and the original hype sticker is dirty and/or damaged, one option is to replace your defective/damaged sticker with one in FLAWLESS condition!
The story behind these stickers is very interesting. The original release of  WYWH was in the blue shrink wrap ONLY (no hype sticker). The albums were sent out to record stores all over the country and they were on the shelves being sold for about 2 weeks (in the blue shrink only). Record store owners started complaining that people weren't buying the album because they didn't know what it was. Since the dark blue shrink wrap covered the entire album cover, there was no title or band name that was visible to customers. And without a hype sticker with the band's name and album title, it was just some random album sealed in blue shrink wrap.
When enough record store owners complained, the newly appointed President of Columbia Records, Walter Yetnikoff, eventually got wind of the shrink issue and he took immediate action. After all, Pink Floyd was the "cash cow" at Columbia Records. Just two years earlier, Pink Floyd released Dark Side of the Moon and that album sold better than any album in history! It's no secret that DSOTM topped the Billboard charts from 1973 to 1988. So Yetnikoff was forced to come up with a quick solution. He decided to have hype stickers made and shipped out to all of the major record stores in the country. The record store owners were told to place the hype sticker on the outside of the shrink for all of the WYWH albums in their inventory. Many record store owners had more stickers than albums. As a result, these owners were left with a ton of unused hype stickers.
I was fortunate to purchase these stickers from a record store owner. These stickers were pretty expensive but worth every penny! I'm planning to hold onto most of the stickers but i figured i'd try to sell a couple to astute collectors in an attempt to offset some of my costs. These stickers aren't reproduction stickers...THESE STICKERS ARE THE REAL DEAL! I've already sold a few of these WYWH stickers and every customer has been very happy with the sticker(s)!
NOTE: This is my last roll so don't hesitate or it'll be gone! These stickers are easy to sell for $20 to $30 each! So this is a great investment opportunity!
Check out my feedback! If you purchase multiple stickers, they will arrive attached to each other in one long sheet. So basically you'll get tickets in roll form.
You won't be disappointed. Satisfaction Guaranteed! Don't miss out on this rare opportunity! Feel free to message me if you have any questions.
Item will be shipped via USPS Priority Mail, i'll send an updated invoice to reflect the increase in shipping costs.
