On offer here is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to pick up the holy grail of Rolling Stones records. This is not only one of the rarest and most collectible UK records of the Rolling Stones, but of all time!

Not only that, but the disc is in a truly beautiful condition for its age!!!

This is a copy of the Rolling Stones' debut LP from 1964 and has the insanely mega-rare matrix numbers XARL 6271-1A and XARL 6272-1A, meaning that this LP has the 2.52 version of the song 'Tell Me (You're Coming Back) instead of the standard version that runs at 4.06.

The story goes that back in 1964 just after the lads had finished recording all the tracks for their first album an engineer accidentally used to the wrong recording for the track 'Tell Me (You're Coming Back)' when creating the plates. This track (not just a different mix but a completely different take!) ran for just 2 minutes and 52 seconds and is very bare with just a couple of instuments, a shoddy vocal from Mick with no studio enhancements made to it and an initially out-of-time bass from Bill Wyman. There isn't even a guitar intrumental in it! The whole thing just sounds so amateurish!

This mistake was discovered pretty much instantly after production started and was removed very quickly. Not only that, but out of all the 2.52 copies that were pressed the majority had the side 1 matrix ending in 2A! The original, 1st press 1A/1A copies are so incredibly hard to find that until recently nobody believed that they even existed! But here's a copy now, and it could be YOURS!!

It's believed that just 10 or so 1A1A copies still exist today!

Not only this, but the cover in itself is very rare!

On the back is a stampmark that reads "For Display - Not For Sale". This, in a nutshell, was stamped on by the record shop owner who designated a particular copy for 'display' purposes, or to play to potential customers so they could sample an LP before buying it. This was done so that the play copy, which usually got played innumerable times, wouldn't get mixed in with stock and get accidentally sold. These sleeves in themselves are INCREDIBLY rare, and shows that the particular record shop that received this LP used the 1A1A LP to play to his customers.

You could even say this it was a promo copy! Could this LP have been sent to the record shop before the release date so that it could be played to hype up fans? Did the shop owner stamp it with the 'Not for Sale' mark so that when the stock copies did arrive they wouldn't get mixed up?

Either way, this is an incredibly rare, impossible to find holy-grail of UK record collecting. Only a very small handful of copies are out there, and now is probably your only chance to ever manage to get your hands on a copy!

. G+/VG- This 'For Display - Not For Sale' promoesque sleeve has certainly had an active life, and by looking at it I have visions of people fighting over it in a record shop. The cover is lovely and clean and has lost none of its colour. There is quite a bit of laminate creasing - most notably at the bottom corners and at the mouthedge and there's a long tear that runs straight through the middle. The back cover has browned slightly over the years and has some light wear. There are some fingerprint marks at each side of the sleeve and a little dirt buildup around the laminate edges and some light creases in the overflaps but there's no really bad damage on the back. All in all a presentable copy of this mega-rare sleeve!   The Front Cover   The Back Cover     The Gatefold   .
. VG+/EX- The vinyl has a lovely shine to it and the playing surface has a few light scuffs here and there. Side one has a slightly heavier scuff that causes a little flicker during play but side 2 is clear with just a few scuffmarks. It looks like the LP has been played in the past and does have a little light background crackle during play, but the music that's given off is clear with pretty much no distortion. It plays wonderfully, especially the 'Tell Me' track. There are no skip, no noticable clicks (bar where mentioned above) and overall plays great for its age. A truly wonderful, wonderful copy of this insanely-rare LP!   Side 1   Side 2   .
. EX++ Both labels are clean, crisp and clear with beautifully bright, sharp, silver text. Both labels have a little light spindlewear that is only just visible, and a tiny bit o wear around the edge of the centerhole, but apart from that the labels are beautiful!   Side 1   Side 2   .

Refunds
Everybody's grading is different; one persons NM might be another persons VG. If you are at all unhappy with the record then please email me and let me know for a full refund plus the postage cost to get it back to me. The record must get back to me in the exact same condition it left however else this offer is void.

Insurance
All items sent within the UK are sent Recorded Delivery as standard. If a record sells highly I'll put up the option for special delivery in case you which to have it sent in this way. All LPs are sent overseas to places outside the UK are sent uninsured as standard small packet airmail. If you live outside the UK and win a record for a lot of money it is highly recommended that insurance is paid for - the option will be there in the invoice I'll send after the auction ends. If no insurance is taken and the LP is lost in transit there is sadly very little, if anything I can do.

Items Lost in the Mail
If your LP hasn't gotten to you and you're at all worried then please don't hesitate to get in touch so that it can be sorted out. Most likely it's just because I haven't been able to get to the post office due to work commitments. If however it has been posted out and not arrived then I will do everything I can to chase it up and try and find it again. Every record sent within the UK is sent recorded delivery so if it does go walkies there's always that to fall back on and chase up. Unless otherwise requested or paid for all overseas items are sent standard airmail so if they disappear there is very little, if anything I can do. I collect proof of purchase with every item I post.

Items Damaged in the Mail
I professionally pack all of my records between strong 12" corrugated stiffeners and sent in a sturdy cardboard LP mailing envelope for full protection whilst in transit. In all my years of buying and selling on eBay only one record I have sent out has arrived broken at its destination (and that was only because the postman obviously couldn't read the large 'FRAGILE' and 'DO NOT BEND' marks on it as he folded it up to put through the letterbox!!). Since the fault of the breakage lies with the postal service your best bet is to tackle them about the problem. I'll help any way I can.

The 'Record Collectors' Grading System.
Taken from the Rare Record Price Guide book   Mint (M) The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertisied as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint. Near Mint (NM) The record looks brand new with no scuffing or any deterioration in sound quality and only the smallest hint that its ever been played. The cover and any additional extras are clean, crisp and with no wear whatsoever. Excellent (EX) The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing. Very Good (VG) The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable. Good (G) The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc. Fair (F) The record is still just about playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced. Poor (P) The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing. Bad (B) The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection filler.
