ROLLING STONES
BEGGARS BANQUET
Label DECCA SKL 4995
STEREO LP released in 1968, in EX condition. Has a few superficial light surface scratches, and one light scratch at the beginning of DEAR DOCTOR, which does have an audible click for the few seconds, aside from that it plays through nicely and is a pleasure to listen to.
The laminated gatefold sleeve (printed by Garrod & Lofthouse), I would describe as VG+.
It has the 'thick spine', typical of the 1967-68 pressings. Although aesthetically more pleasing, with the benefit of hindsight I doubt that today the thick spine would have made it past the design table, let alone quality control. It is obvious that this design fault made 'pressure bunching' and creasing to the inner gatefold unavoidable - irrespective of how well the album was stored. Fortunately, this is one of the rarer and better examples, showing very little inner 'bunching'.
The sleeve itself is very clean, but shows normal wear and edge scuffing - acceptable for an item 30+ years old. Some laminate creasing on the reverse corner. All in all a very nice copy of a great album.
As a collector myself, I know how frustrating and disappointing it is to receive a tatty item which bears very little resemblance to the description given. I try hard to be as accurate as I can when grading, and use all sources available - including the 'Record Collector Grading System. Not will I neglect to mention glaringly obvious vandalism such as writing on the label or sleeve. Which amazingly have been omitted from a lot of descriptions to purchases I have unfortunately gone on to make!
