A lovely clean condition copy of this 1964 Decca Mono debut album from those clean-cut boys, The Rolling Stones.
The term, "collectors item" gets bandied around a bit too frequently, but this is one of the exceptions.
"First Pressings" of this album are generally accepted as being pressed in 1964 on the Red/Silver Decca ffrr "ear" label with the Decca logo "un-boxed"
After this, it can get confusing!!
The "Very First" pressings have 1A matrix numbers on both sides and a shortened version of the track "Tell Me" on the cut. This is commonly regarded as one of the world's top 5 rarest albums and easily commands four-figure sums. (Sadly, this is not that version!)
Other "First Pressings" have a combination of 4 sleeve and 5 label variations, (given the prefixes, A1, A2, B1 & B2 and V, W, X, Y & Z) which gives a possible 20 sleeve/label variants. This album is one of those variants, with a "B1" sleeve and a "V" label.

Vinyl: VG+ A lovely condition copy - remarkably clean for a 51 year old slice of vinyl. Still retains a nice deep lustre and sheen and lies flat on the turntable with no signs of warping. It has obviously been played - there are plenty of superficial surface marks, but I have play-tested it in full on two different machines; a Bush SRP 31C with a Garrard 210 deck and a crystal GC-8 cartridge, and also on a much more sensitive Goldring Lenco GL75 turntable with a modern stereo cart. There is some understandable crackle and hiss on the run-ins and dead wax between tracks, but the surface marks do not produce any jumps, skips or skating. It sounds just great! The label is the Decca Red/Silver ffrr "ear" company design, nice and clean and free from scuffs, stains and blemishes There are signs of spindle-wear.
Sleeve: VG+ A nice clean condition sleeve. Laminated flip-back with band-photo design on front cover. Plain white rear with track-listing, album credits and sleeve notes by Andrew Loog Oldham. The sleeve is entirely intact with no splits or tears and only very light edge creases in the laminate. There's some age-discolouration on the white sections on the rear of the sleeve and a little ring-wear evident.
Now, the features that confirm it as a B1/V copy
Sleeve (B1): Side 1 track 4 is listed as "I Need You Baby" NOT "Mona". The cover has flip-backs top and bottom, folded over the back cover.
Label (V): The label rim-text at the top reads (in caps) "MADE IN ENGLAND - THE DECCA RECORD CO LTD". On side 1, the rights identifiers are at the right-hand side of the label beneath the catalogue number, and read, "BIEM" & "NCB" boxed and adjacent to each other with no full stops. On side 2, it's just "N.C.B." boxed with full stops. "Tell Me" track plays the full 4:06.
I have seen copies of this and other first-press variants advertised with asking prices heading towards £200.
