The Rolling Stones
Exile On Main Street
COC 69100 Release date 1972 ORIGINAL
Beautiful collectors’ item and with a historic twist! ALLEN hand etched in all run offs and without the double matrix. One of the rarest examples of this mega Stones release. NEVER SEEN BEFORE! !Rolling Stones Records NOT etched in run offs!!!Amazing find. Allen Klein EX Manager endorsed!
Soon to be EX MANAGER Allen Klein took over the reins of Andrew Loog Oldham in 1965, so that Oldham concentrated on producing the Band. In the late sixties, a few years later, Jagger SACKED Allen Klein because he suspected him of illegal business tactics!!!However, the Band had inadvertently, signed over the entire 1960s copyrights to ALLEN KLEIN and his company ABKCO, which is how all their material from 1963 has since come to be released by ABKCO Records !!! The Rolling Stones would remain incensed with Klein for DECADES over this swindle!
In 1970 the Band’s contracts with both KLEIN and Decca records ended and amid contractual disputes with Allen Klein, they formed their own record label-the infamous Rolling Stones Records .Sticky Fingers was their first album produced against their own label and Exile was their second. After Sticky Fingers was made, The Rolling Stones left England on the advice of financial advisors and moved to South of France where EXILE ON MAIN STREET was produced against their own Record label.
This particular release has ALLEN etched on all four run offs of both vinyls!!NO double matrix as found on all the 1st UK pressings but NOT this one which has been put up for auction and should be of main interest to any Stones enthusiast. Everything else is the same and was issued against the Rolling Stones Records label ! So how bizarre is this!
Album sleeve
An absolute delight to view! Shorewood Packaging 1st issue sleeve with thicker cardboard manufacture compared to later reissues. Beautiful spinal column with just top edge knocked slightly otherwise one of the best ever viewed. Edges are near perfect and white coloration is still maintained on outer faces and just a hint of ageing discoloration toward spinal edge. Ex+ condition!
The inner picture cards are NEAR MINT and in beautiful condition. Thicker card manufacture again and not the thinner reissue fabrication .
VINYLS
Beautiful high gloss visual and the ultra rare ALLEN in upper case hand etched on all four run offs. Never seen before and inscriptions are all hand etched as follows:
ALLEN I -1 COC 69100 A EG / 1
ALLEN I -1 COC 69100 B EG / 1
ALLEN I -3 COC 69100 C EG / 1
ALLEN I -1 COC 69100 D EG / 1
NO double matrix. NO Rolling Stones Records as found on all other first UK pressings! The vinyls are in superb condition with just the odd light mark if angled against a strong light .All surface marks disappear through a mirror like sheen !
Labels
Rolling Stones Records label format. Some light peel/discoloration with a light spindle trace.Very good condition.
(((Audio)))
Delivered in sensational style with tones sharp and clear. Very little to fault. Dust is still lifting from these grooves so will assume more improvement to be made!. No serious faults at all. Some surface static between tracks/opening grooves. Very good/+ delivery save for Tr4/S3- 3 pops, between Tr4-5 invisible scratch 4 ticks and during intro Tr5 2 ticks. Apart from those minor blips on sounds, a very pleasing listen and at least a very good aural delivery. Beautiful warm tones !
Complete with 1st issue postcards
Exile On Main Street by the Rolling Stones, drew on influences from rock and roll, blues, country and soul elements. It was greeted with lukewarm reviews, but is now considered widely among the Band’s finest work and one of the defining masterpieces of the rock era !
Do not miss this historic, ultra rare exhibit !
