Exile on Main St, double lp, still new, and factory-sealed!
This was my intended spare copy to play when my first one wore out, but before it did, compact discs came out, so I decided to keep this LP sealed until I could sell it - thanks to EBay, now I can..
Possibly the best Rolling Stones album, with Sticky Fingers giving it a fair argument, but both are as good as it gets in classic rock!
note: I've had questions about a "Unipak version". Mine is a standard double lp gatefold - and according to Wikipedia, is the originally released format. The lp was issued in 1972, I bought mine in 1977-8, and it appears to be the original format, with 10 pictures inside, which I assume are still in mine since it's never been opened.
It received mixed reviews at first, then many of those critics re-accessed the lp as "best of 72", and Rolling Stone has it ranked 7th on their "All-time Top 500 Rock Albums". For me this lp with Sticky Fingers (in their words, a "Tribute to morphine") represent the ultimate in the Stones' talent.
Probably the best cut on Exile is "Tumbling Dice", re-recorded by many others including Linda Ronstadt. "Shake Your Hips" is another relentlessly driving blues-influenced rocker.
