EX (sleeve)/ EX+ (vinyl-aural) condition

 

A note on my approach to selling records: Listings for records on eBay often fall short on detail both visually and descriptively, which can lead to disappointment. I take revealing photos, often in harsh light, so that you can actually see what you’ll get. I also describe honestly what you’ll hear. MATRIX NOS:

Side 1: XZAL-10076-1W

Side 2: XZAL-10077-1W

 

CONDITION:

Sleeve: EX

1st print laminated-both-sides and pinched-both-ends 'Upton' sleeve with purple border in very clean condition. Has kept its shine, with very minor surface wear and ring wear on both sides. A few minor creases, but some of them are hard to see except by angling the sleeve into the light. Almost no edge wear or corner wear, no seam splits, and no marks or writing. The spine itself is in lovely condition, clearly legible and intact end to end. There is some laminate shrinkage which has caused the laminate to lift along the spine - very common with this sleeve because of the double sided lamination - but it hasn't split anywhere.

Inner sleeve: EX

Original big 'STEREO' inner sleeve printed 8-70 (August 1970) in very good condition - zoom in. I have never seen an earlier date code for this album (which was released 9-70). Smooth, uncreased, no corner or edge wear, no seam splits. On the flip side there is a little yellowing down the sides along the glue lines, but otherwise the whole sleeve is in nice creamy white condition.

Labels: EX

1st print deep blue labels in excellent condition. Only a few short spindle marks.

Vinyl-visual: EX

Both sides are clean with a nice black sheen. Only light signs of use - this record has been played, but not much. There are hardly any surface marks or fine lines to be seen, the only obvious one is on Side 2 and it is completely superficial - see photos. There are NO scratches.

Vinyl-aural: EX+

Plays beautifully all the way through from beginning to end on both sides. There are no scratches or jumps or sticking. There is barely any surface noise, nothing to speak of, the quieter passages are just that - quiet. The sound is powerful and punchy and clear, without any obvious distortion. In short, there is nothing that interferes with the listening experience and enjoyment - it plays very nearly like new!

 

GRADING:

I follow RECORD COLLECTOR guidelines, and use Good (G or G+), Very Good (VG or VG+), Excellent (EX or EX+), and Near Mint or Mint. The majority of the records I sell range from VG+ to Near Mint, and come from my collection of over 1,500 albums and singles. I listen to them on a Rega Planar 3 turntable.

MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.

(FAIR: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced).
