"Exile On Main Street" is usually voted the Stones best record in the polls, though it is a great album,it's not as good as Beggars Banquet…..The Stones finally came into their own on this record, they no longer were imitating Chuck Berry and The Beatles amongst others….Songs like "Street Fighting Man" "Sympathy For the Devil" "Salt Of the Earth" were uniquely original and theirs, sure there were some tinges of familiarity here and there in songs like "No Expectations" (Robert Johnson) and "Stray Cat Blues" (Elmore James) and "Jig-Saw Puzzle"…But it not as obvious,as it was in their earlier  work.
I'd be remiss,if I didn't mention Nicky Hopkins phenomenal piano playing on this (and many  others) record,he plays an integral part to why this record is so great.
If you were to own one Stones record, this is the one to have.
The record grades an easy EX+ to near Mint….It's a keeper!
The Garrod and Lofthouse gatefold record cover grades an easy Excellent+ to Near Mint (see scans).
I've been collecting records for over 52 years now and this album is from my personal collection.
