Original UK 1971 rare GATEFOLD sleeve that opens up + MINT A4/B4 vinyl - all complete
EX (sleeve)/ MINT (vinyl-aural) condition
According to Discogs: 'A pressing error allowed a few copies of the iconic Sticky Fingers to leave the factory with a gatefold sleeve instead of the top opening sleeve.'

A note on my approach to selling records: Listings of records on eBay often fall short of detail both visually and descriptively, which can lead to disappointment. I take revealing photos, sometimes in harsh light, so that you can actually see what you’ll get. I also describe honestly what you’ll hear. CONDITION:

This is the rare open gatefold cover that perhaps was never intended for the shops and may have been printed in a short run as a promo copy for radio stations. OR, perhaps more likely, the factory made a mistake. As Discogs says, 'A pressing error allowed a few copies of the iconic Sticky Fingers to leave the factory with a gatefold sleeve instead of the top opening sleeve.' Whatever the truth, very few were made! It's in great condition, if not perfect, and lovely to hold. It looks and feels LIKE NEW, there is none of the yellowing/ageing that is commonly found on most early Sticky Fingers sleeves, both front and back are clean and clear, and the white stands out against the black. The zip also is in bright as-new condition. There are no creases, except two small light ones in the usual places - just above the zip and on the buckle at the top. They are minor - see photos. Just below the zip there are a few small indentations and light scratches to the card, but you have to look to notice. On the back there are very light signs of rubbing from stacking against other records, and two or three little indentations from the zips of other Sticky Fingers sleeves, I imagine, but that's all ... The pinched spine is in superb condition end-to-end. Inside, the zip is securely held, but there is some thin light peeling next to it where it looks like the original glue has spread outwards a bit and over time has peeled up.Inner sleeve: EX
The original inner sleeve with 'Made In England' in blue ink (not black ink which became standard later). I have not included a full photo for lack of space, but it is in excellent condition, intact, no tears and no seam splits.Insert: EX+
The original insert in nearly mint condition. There is just a slight corner crease, bottom right on the white side. Otherwise perfect.
Labels: MINT
No signs of play whatsoever! Super clean bright yellow labels with bold black print and NO spindle marks that I can see at all on either side!
Vinyl-visual: MINT
As with the labels, no signs of play! It looks brand new and unplayed, there are no marks of any kind on the vinyl at all. That's it. I very rarely grade a record as MINT, but this one is!
Vinyl-aural: MINT
It plays perfectly and beautifully all the way through on both sides! I have never heard an early Sticky Fingers pressing sound as good, and they were notorious for below-par sound reproduction, the rhythm section in particular sounding 'muffled' and in the distance. Not so with this one! It clearly sounds better than the A3/B3 pressings (one of which I have). 'Brown Sugar' leaps out of the speakers, and from beginning to end the sound is full-bodied and clear. This record really does play AS NEW - no scratches, no distortion, and no surface noise, even during the quiet parts. There is barely a crackle even along the run-in grooves. That's it. This is easily a final top copy - Enjoy!
GRADING:
I follow RECORD COLLECTOR guidelines, and use Good (G or G+), Very Good (VG or VG+), Excellent (EX or EX+), and Near Mint or Mint. The majority of the records I sell range from VG+ to Near Mint, and come from my collection of over 1,500 albums and singles. I listen to them on a Rega Planar 3 turntable.
MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.
EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.
VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.
GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.
(FAIR: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced).
