Description
This is the original UK stereo press from late 1969 with the dark blue unboxed Decca labels with TNR font, the SKL 5019 matrix numbers and the octagonal front laminated sleeve, with the printed blue octagonal inner sleeve. With the earliest P-1W P-2W matrices and 1-K 1-U stampers of the very 1st presses (Design No 9/Version 2 (SKL5019/S1/D9/V2) see Stones On decca website).
This is the second Rolling Stones compilation album, released in the UK in November 1969 after the death of Brian Jones and dedicated to his memory. The initial copies came in both mono & stereo versions in special octagonal gatefold sleeves, with blue printed inners. This cover was discontinued in 1970/71, when the more common single sleeves with boxed Decca labels came in.
The Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd front laminated octagonal sleeve is intact & in EX condition, with some light corner/edge wear and some light laminate rubbing on the front cover. The blue company inner sleeve is intact and in EX condition. The spine is intact and fully readable.
The record is in visually EX condition, with a couple of faint sleeve removal hairlines/scuffs and one or two light needle scuffs visible on each side, but there are two small areas of bag rubbing on each side. The labels are in EX condition, clean & bright with evidence of only one or two faint spindle markings on each side. The sound reproduction is EX, still clear & precise throughout with no loud pops, hiss or crackle & definately no skips, sticks or jumps, but there is some very brief background noise during the run-in grooves and briefly in a couple of the quieter passages caused by the areas of bag rubbing.
Overall, still a really great, loud & clear listen. The matrix nos. are; XZAL-9067-P-1W stamper 1-K, XZAL-9068-P-2W stamper 1-U. This is one of the very early copies of the original UK stereo issue of this classic 1969 album.
