Description

Billy Banks was the front man and sometime vocalist for the cookin' group of musicians heard here who made up one of the earliest multi-racial groups: Henry "Red" Allen (tpt/vcl); Pee Wee Russell (cl/ten); Joe Sullivan (piano); Eddie Condon (banjo); Jack Bland (guitar); Al Morgan (bass); Gene Krupa on drums on Bugle Call Rag; Zutty Singleton on drums on Spider Crawl.
"Bugle Call Rag" was recorded in New York City in April 1932; "Spider Crawl" was recorded in NYC on May 23, 1932.

Wikipedia says Romeo started with a maroon label, changed to black in 1931 and became blue in 1935 - also that the black and blue labels are harder now to find apparently because of the depression.
This record is over 80 years old and sounds remarkable for its age. There is definitely surface scratchiness but man, does that group cook...This 78 is a gem. I would (inexpertly) give it a GOOD+ .
