Description
Here's Jamaican reggae singer Ruddy Thomas on a very rare Earthquake Records 12" single from 1978 called Long Time Ago, backed with Jimmy Riley performing the classic Summertime. The record was made in Jamaica.
I have just now played the record on a good turntable and timed the tracks. Long Time Ago is 5:19 with a dub starting at 2:39. Summertime is 7:35 with a dub kicking in at 4:07.
The record has been in my collection for years and I just don't play it anymore so here goes. I bought it used but have looked after it well. It's barely been played by me at all but because of the nature of Jamaican pressings of this type the songs are a little crackly and very occasionally scratchy but do not skip. I would say that Long Time Ago is less crackly than Summertime, simply due to the length of that song and the wideness of its groove.
The record itself to look at has some light scratch lines and tiny bumps in the plastic due to the poor nature of these pressings, little of which affects or is heard in play. Long Time Ago has a tiny outplay matrix groove and much wider grooves. The matrix on this side reads DSR 6578 - A and then the name D. Harriott is scratched into the matrix, possibly referring to Derrick Harriott, a reggae singer on Trojan around the same period. I'm not sure. The matrix on Summertime reads DSR 6578 - B and also D. Harriott.
The record sleeve has some edge wear and creasing as you can see but is otherwise fine, again being the nature of its age and the style of such pressings. All photographs are of the item for sale and are not stock images.
I have bought and sold vinyl records through the mail for twenty years and know how to ship properly. The record will be taken out of the front cover to prevent those annoying scuff holes in the sides of covers. It will be housed in its original poly sleeve with a plastic sleeve over it and the cover, and with two pieces of card inside. You won't be able to shake the parcel and hear the record move inside.
