Rupert Clemendore & group - Le Jazz Trinidad (USA press, rec. in Trinidad, Cook Records, early `60s) Generic black Cook cover with gold embossed lettering and gold stickers bearing title/artist credits etc., has INSERT that looks like a back cover, with track listing, liner notes, photos. See the pictures and scans for track listing, liner notes, etc. Cover: EX Disc M- When held up to light, the disc reveals itself to be a "speckled" dark wine red, see picture. This is true of many vintage Cook releases.

Information (abridged) on Emory Cook and Cook Records, from the Smithsonian Institution, who now curate Cook Records and its archives:
Emory Cook (1913-2002) is widely regarded as one of the top audio engineers of all time.
In the late 1940’s, convinced he could do better than what was on the market, Cook began experimenting with making his own audio equipment. Cook Laboratories was started in 1945 when he developed a new cutting head to be used in record production.
Shortly after, Sounds of Our Times, later called Cook Records, was born.
Cook Records collected many different sounds and was mostly aimed at the devoted high-fidelity listener.
Cook Records also produced traditional music albums from its plant in Stamford, Connecticut. The label produced everything from organ music to folk, flamenco guitar, calypso and steel band. Cook had little interest in name musicians and instead searched high and low for anything he thought might be an interesting contribution to his label.
Cook had such a large interest in Calypso music that he set up a second pressing plant in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad. There he pressed calypso and steel band music for both a Trinidadian and American audience, and most albums sold well in both countries.
In addition to the wide range of music Cook recorded, he was also an inventor. It was Cook who first came up with the idea of pressing records with powdered rather than solid vinyl, a technique he dubbed “microfusion.” This technique not only saved money, but cut out many of the traditional crackles and pops associated with records.
He also developed the binaural system of recording and playing records, which he thought was superior to the more commonly used stereo method. Binaural was more precise than stereo, and it required placing two microphones six inches apart, approximately the space between two ears, during the recording. It was then played back with a special two-needle playing arm. Binaural recordings were thought by Cook to best duplicate the original sound.
A NOTE ON COOK RECORDS VINYL PRESSINGS (from this seller, not the Smithsonian:)
Cook vinyl pressings might be the most unusual of any label's. In the case of many Cook releases, the records are like home-baked cookies: no two pieces are exactly alike.
While appearing to be black or darkish burgundy, when held up to light, many Cook pressings reveal themselves to be lovely color or multicolored vinyl. Some discs offered in this week's auction are colored vinyl, check the photos for backlit illuminated examples.
Cook vinyl can have an unusual appearance: some pressings are a bit mottled, and some have odd marks from manufacturing that do not affect the play. Older pressings can be rather heavy. While Cook was a pioneering audiophile label, some pressings are a bit noisy. This is partially due to the great dynamic range heard on Cook releases and the fact that much of the music on Cook LPs is relatively quiet acoustic music. In any case, I have hand-cleaned most of the records in this auction, but most could probably be improved a bit with a good cleaning machine like a VPI, and with a couple of play-throughs to dig out half a century of storage funk.

International orders over $200 will be sent REGISTERED mail. There is an ADDITIONAL cost of $11.50 for this, so an LP that sells at $200 or more will have a shipping charge of $26.00 ($14.50 for first class mail and $11.50 for registration.) It is known to be a very secure shipping method, requiring signatures from postal employees at various stops along the way, as well as your signature upon receipt of the package.
I no longer require Express mail for any destination, but it is recommended for more expensive records.
