Description
A rare record of the tenor Nikolai Figner (1857-1918) singing “O Lola” from Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana, recorded about 1901. Red label ten inch G and T 22596, matrix 446X. The record has the usual pressing indentations, some scuffs and slight scratches which do not sound. The very first groove, with the piano introductory chords, has blasting, but luckily the rest of the record has no blasting. As usual with red Russian Figners, for some reason the label is worn – see photo. Someone has written “N. Figner Cavalleria O Lola” in yellow grease pencil in the inner blank grooves – this could be easily rubbed off. Plays well except as noted.
