Ruth Price Sings With Johnny Smith mono LP 1956
Roost LP 2217. Blue label with silver writing. Runout marked on side one GB-643-N1 and LP-2217-5157-PT-1, and GB-644-N2 and LP-2217-5158-PT-2 on side two. There is a name and address sticker on the label on side one, visible in picture.
Record looks nice. There is a little, quiet, crackle between songs and during very quiet portions on the program material. There are some pops, not bad. Mostly sounds very nice.
See pictures. Edges aren't so bad that the record falls out, but they are rough. There is a one inch split at the opening side on the bottom. There is a five inch split at the opening side on top, and the outside paper wrap is missing from a total of about five inches of the spine in two different spots. The front looks rather good, with plenty of gloss. If held at the right angle, ring wear is visible. The back is somewhat yellowed and has visible ring wear and a red spot in the upper corner. All writing is clear and legible.

I don't use the standard grading system, not to make it hard, but to make it easy. My method is simple. I look at it and tell you what I see, and I listen to it and tell you what I hear. I usually listen at three out of ten on the volume knob, but always turn it up to about five of ten on at least a couple of songs per record to really highlight any flaws.
A quick search will turn up many records offered as near mint that obviously aren't near mint after just a casual glance at the supplied picture. I have purchased records sold as near mint that sound way worse than the record I am offering. I wil not do this to you. Look at the picture (always the actual item) and read my text, and you will know what to expect.
Be sure to click the see other items button for more records as I will be liquidating a 5,000 record collection over the next few years. This collector started in the 1930s and continued until cds supplanted records as the medium of choice. The collection is mostly jazz and classical. There are name and address stickers on most of the records and covers that I don't dare try to remove as many have been there for fifty years! Besides putting on stickers, the original collector often left handwritten notes to himself on the back covers, usually dates. Having seen his massive cassette and reel to reel collection, and going by the dates, I suspect that the dates are when he made tapes of the albums. I also suspect that the taping is the reason that these records are in such nice condition. This collector was a non smoker, but he got at least some of his records used, I've seen a couple that obviously came from library sales. If I notice a smoky smell, I will note it, but so far they smell like cardboard.
