Nottingham thrash giants Sabbat made an immense impact on the UK metal scene throughout the late 80s and early 90s, before internal tensions and financial woes led to their abrupt end. It would be almost two decades until the group would reform in earnest, but their legacy had been kept potent and alive by the staying power of their frenetic debut History Of A Time To Come and the almost immediate sophomore follow up Dreamweaver (Reflections of Our Yesterdays). Compiling these two seminal full-lengths with a live performance from East Berlin captured in 1990 whilst promoting their second LP, as well as a long unavailable BBC Radio 1 session, Mad Gods & Englishmen is the ultimate collector's edition box set. As their third and subsequently final record Mourning Has Broken was the only release not to feature original vocalist Martin Walkyier, and its apparent disowning by lead guitarist Andy Sneap, it's safe to say that this collection is the definite canon of Sabbat, according to the men behind the metal. Regardless of where your loyalties lie, this box set is fan service done the right way.
