The iconic first album from Watford coldwave-tinted post-punk outfit, 'Sad Lovers & Giants', still sounds as fresh and relevant to today's sonic spectrum as it did upon its release literally four decades ago. With frosted synth lines, echoing vocals, and dissonant, jangling riffs for days, 'Epic Garden Music', almost predates the goth-rock influence that would become an intrinsic aspect of the scene forevermore. John Peel sessions and an inclusion into the 1001 Songs You Must Hear Before You Die manifesto, are just a few of the waves this immense debut full-length has made since first being unleashed on the listening public forty years ago. Relistening now, it's almost bizarre how many of today's post-punk acts worth their salt, are indebted to this work, whether they're aware of it or not.
