This item is one of a batch of SEALED ORIGINAL LPs from 1960's and 1970's from a warehouse find by one of our distributors of! These are original sealed copies of some juicy semi-obscurities!! Since we cannot see through the shrink-wrap to ensure perfection inside the record jackets after (in some cases) 55 years, we cannot take any opened copies back in return—sealed copies are fine—but once they’re opened, that’s it. The risk is minor, we believe, as these were all stored in an operational warehouse until we purchased them. They appear to be in excellent condition. Very few copies remaining on these gems, please act fast!

CALLIOPE "Steamed" (Buddah BDS-5023): underrated 1968 fuzz pop-psych LP featuring Danny O'Keefe, with a great organ-driven version of Lee Michaels' ‘Hello’ and a truly psychedelic cover version of ‘California Dreaming.’ Best known for his signature 1972 hit ‘Good Time Charlie's Got The Blues,’ Danny O'Keefe is a veteran singer-songwriter of rare lyrical insight.

In the 1970’s, backed by top session players and Southern California country-rockers, he released a string of genre-defying albums for Panorama, Cotillion, Signpost, and Atlantic. His songs have been recorded more recently by Alison Krauss, Nickel Creek, Ute Lemper, and others. While recovering from a motorcycle accident in his early twenties, O'Keefe began writing songs. Following his 1966 debut single ‘Don't Wake Me In The Morning,’ he formed the Seattle-based psychedelic group Calliope, which released the now-collectible “Steamed” LP in 1968. He then met Charles Greene a Los-Angeles-based industry figure with ties to Buffalo Springfield and Iron Butterfly. Greene introduced O'Keefe to Atlantic's Ahmet Ertegun, who signed the artist to his label's Cotillion imprint.

If the Calliope album was on, say, Mainstream, and had a nicer sleeve design, it would be much more expensive today. One of a few remaining vinyl bargains from the psychedelic era.
