SAM GOPAL LP ESCALATOR 1969 STABLE SLE 8001
On offer is The SAM GOPAL LP entitled ESCALATOR released in the UK in STEREO on STABLE SLE 8001 in 1969. SAM GOPAL featured Ian Willis on vocals, lead guitar (later to be better known as LEMMY from MOTORHEAD). SAM GOPAL’s one and only album is highly collectable these days – and is a mixture of sensitive psychedelic rock (e.g. Yesterlove) and heavyish psych with progressive leanings (e.g. Angry faces / The Dark Lord etc.). Track listing is – Side 1: Cold Embrace / The Dark Lord / The Sky is Burning / You’re Alone Now / Grass/ It’s Only Love. Side 2: Escalator / Angry faces / Midsummer Night’s Dream / Season of the Witch / Yesterlove.
This rare psych LP is in the following condition:-
v It is a genuine 1st UK Pressing on the Stable Records label with the A/B 1st Pressing Matrix Numbers.
v The fully textured (inside and out) 1st pressing gatefold sleeve has no writing on it and no seam splits. It has been kept in a plastic cover for the last 20 years and has been well looked after. There is some wear to the edges and spine as is inevitably the case with these non-laminated textured sleeves. Overall I would grade this sleeve as VG+.
v The disc – which has the B&C credit on the label – has nice clean vinyl (with a lovely sheen) and it has nice clear labels – with no marks or writing on the labels. This 1st pressing LP was pressed on thick heavy duty 1st pressing vinyl.
v The vinyl is visually in VG+ condition with one mark on Angry Faces and one on Yesterlove - but these are not deep - and cause only a couple of clicks at the start of Angry Faces and a couple at the very end of Yesterlove. Otherwise the LP plays EX/VG+ with a nice full sound on my hi-fi.
In summary this is a nice example VG+/VG+ of this rare 1st press psych LP from 1969 that has been very well looked after over the years.
