Here is a 1st Pressing copy of the third Samhain album on vinyl!!
The vinyl is in fantastic condition.
The cover would probably grade the same if not for mild corner crinkles
& the original insert (only included with the 1st & 2nd limited pressings)
is half included, with the lyrics intact & the photo collage somewhere else.

As far as our crack research team can figure out, this is a 1st Pressing copy.
I'll tell you why they think that's true, and you Samhain/Danzig/Misfits experts can tear my argument to shreds & behead me if we're wrong.
Plan 9 & Caroline addresses on rear cover (on later pressings the Plan 9 logo replaced the address)
1985 date on the top of the lyric insert (which was only included in 1st & 2nd Pressings)(2nd press is yellow vinyl!)
(ALTHOUGH PLEASE NOTE THAT A PAST OWNER HAS OBVIOUSLY EXCISED THE INSERT, BECAUSE I BELIEVE THERE IS SUPPOSED TO BE A PHOTO COLLAGE ON THE OTHER SIDE BUT THIS IS ONE SQUARE WITH LYRICS AND INFO, A SLIGHTLY CROOKED BOTTOM EDGE, AND A BLANK WHITE REAR!  Again, see the photos for visual reinforcement.)

The matrix or runout / runoff groove on the vinyl contains these etchings:
An oval with the letters EDP inside, MASTERED BY TRUTONE - Pa 1-86 , PL-9 07 A , M2 (My eyesight is bad, but I think these are right)

 It is an EX+ vinyl copy with a cover that gets a VG only because of mild warping on the bottom corner.  The insert is halfway included!  Read below for details!

To sum up:
*Someone has sliced the lyric/photo collage insert in half, taking the photos with them before we bought it.  Also, they made the ridiculous punkrock-kid decision to color in a couple of the song titles on the insert.  SEE THE PHOTOS.  "In My Grip" and the letters "Mo" from the song "Mother Of Mercy" have been artistically rendered for your pleasure in what looks like yellow highlighter.  Also, the "o" in "Mo" has a red circle around it.  They've also colored the P in the copyright symbol thingy a dark blue on the top left, after the 1985 date.  Besides that, there is wear in the form of some edge dings and a general crinkling to the whole insert.  I believe this album got a lot of love.  The bad part is that someone took scissors to a valuable collectible & halved your insert.  The good part is that they took the photos and not the lyrics, so you still have something to read.
*The cover doesn't have much damage.  There is very very minor wear, but if it weren't for the wrinkling on the bottom right hand corner of the album jacket itself, I would easily be able to grade it EX or better.  It's in fine fettle.  It looks like it may have simply been in a humid place for a few hours, or had exposure to wetness or humidity.  One corner has some mild crinkling.  SEE THE PHOTOS.  It's not a big deal.  You might even be able to finesse it back into being nearly flat given a couple of heavy objects, time, gravity and the heat of the sun.  We'll call it a VG, and I'm only grading it that low because of the crinkly bottom corner.  Hell, they're big crinkles too.  Those are the best kind.  Or the least-amount-of-damage-inflicted fine.  Or, I mean to say, that's the kind of crinkle that denotes the minimal amount of water damage.  It's a good sign if you have an item that ends up being the victim of humidity when it's all said and done and it looks like this.  Minor, in other words.  No, not miner.  Minor.
*The vinyl LP is what makes this a cool find.  It is in beautiful shape.  I'd say it's EX+, and it's even prettier now that I gave it a spin on our terribly-expensive VPI record cleaner.  I mean, it was in great shape in the first place, but I cleaned it on the VPI and I'm actually rewriting the description of the vinyl because it turned out to be even nicer than I thought it was at first glance under the harsh lights of the grading room.

Samhain was an American rock band formed by singer Glenn Danzig in 1983, immediately following his departure from The Misfits. Samhain played in more of a death rock- and heavy metal-infused style of horror punk than Danzig's previous band. By 1987 Samhain's membership evolved into a new band, Danzig.

Danzig originally planned Samhain as a side project, but after his earlier group, The Misfits, messily dissolved, it became his full-time band. Samhain is the least-celebrated of Danzig's major musical outlets and catalogs a transitional period in his musical career, bridging the gap between the punk rock of the Misfits and the dark, heavy metal and blues-influenced sound of Danzig. Both Samhain and its successor Danzig use the same horned skull image originally drawn by artist Michael Golden for the cover of the 1984 comic book The Saga of Crystar #8, published by Marvel Comics). The font often used in the name logo of Samhain, and later Danzig, is taken from the film The Giant Gila Monster.

Danzig took the name of the band from Samhain, the ancient Celtic New Year, which influenced the evolution of the modern Halloween. The band's name is typically pronounced "sam-hane" (i.e. the syllables rhyme with "ham" and "pain", respectively), though when the word occurs in song lyrics, Danzig himself pronounces it "sa-wun", in conformity with the generally accepted pronunciation of the name of the eponymous ancient holiday. This is evident in the song "Samhain" itself, and in "November's Fire" and the Danzig song "Soul on Fire". The correct way to pronounce Samhain is sow-in.

   MEMBERS:
 * Glenn Danzig: Founding member. Vocals/guitar/keyboards/drums, also sole songwriter and lyricist. Also a member of Danzig.
    * Brian Baker Founding member, formerly of Minor Threat. Played only in rehearsals, but was meant to be a permanent member. Left because he didn't feel his playing was cohesive with the other members.
    * Lyle Preslar: Founding member, formerly of Minor Threat. Guitar on four tracks on Initium only. Scheduling problems and an early difference of opinion over musical direction led to his non-involvement in the band.
    * Al Pike: Formerly of Reagan Youth. Played bass on Initium's "Archangel".
    * Steve Zing: Founding member. Drums on Initium and Unholy Passion, also held Drum and Bass duties for the 1999 tour. Is currently a member of Danzig.
    * Eerie Von: Bass, backing vocals. A member of Danzig until 1995.
    * Pete "Damien" Marshall: Guitar on Unholy Passion and November-Coming-Fire. Later played in Braineaters, Ditch Witch and with Iggy Pop.
    * London May: Drums on November-Coming-Fire and held drum and bass duties for the 1999 tour, ex-Reptile House.
    * Todd Youth: Guitar on the 1999 tour only, also played on the related Son of Sam side project with Davey Havok, Steve Zing and London May.
    * John Christ: Guitar on side one of Final Descent and the mostly unreleased Samhain Grim sessions. Also played in Danzig until 1995.
    * Chuck Biscuits: Never actually a member of Samhain, although he played drums on "Death...In Its Arms" from Final Descent. Also a member of Danzig until summer 1994.

Samhain III: November-Coming-Fire was the band Samhain's third release. It was issued in 1986 on lead singer Glenn Danzig's independent record label, Plan 9. It is considered by many fans to be the band's best piece of work, as they were evolving their own style of music, which was often described as gothic metal despite a lack of musical connections to the genre. It contains a re-recorded version of The Misfits' "Halloween II."
This was the last LP issued by the band during its existence, although some songs were recorded later for a planned follow-up LP to be called Samhain Grim, and these later found their way onto Final Descent.
This recording is marked by intense reverb, powerful vocals, guitars heavily treated with a chorus effect, and what seems to be a constant siren of sonorous feedback in the background. This sound was a staple in Samhain recordings, and most likely, came from Danzig's interest in the work of artists like Bauhaus and Alien Sex Fiend.
The album later inspired a band of the same name. The track Mother of Mercy was featured in the 2009 video game Guitar Hero: Metallica.


Samhain was formed in 1983 in Lodi, New Jersey, by vocalist Glenn Danzig and bassist Eerie Von following the

breakup of The Misfits. The idea for Samhain, though, had allegedly been conceived a few years prior to that

and a number of songs for the project were written while Danzig was still in the Misfits (the Misfits also

recorded a few songs that Danzig had written with Samhain in mind). After tossing around several line-ups, the

band was completed with Steve Zing, another Lodi native and friend of Von's, on drums. Danzig would also handle

guitar duties, although former Minor Threat guitarist Lyle Preslar played with the band at their first show and

recorded several songs with the band. Eschewing the straight up punk sound and horror movie image of the

Misfits, Samhain played a more goth and atmospheric style of music with some punk and metal overtones and the

lyrics focused more on the occult and real life violence. Following the recording, but prior to the release of

their first album, 1984's "Initium", Pete Marshall (aka "Damien") joined the band as guitarist. Steve Zing quit

the band in 1985, either tiring of touring or Danzig's complete control of the band (depending on who one was

talking to at the time) and was replaced by former Reptile House drummer London May. This line-up would record

the band's second LP, "November-Coming-Fire", which would be the band's last release during their lifetime. The

band caught the attention of Rick Rubin, who was initially interested in signing Danzig to a solo career. Up to

that point, all of Samhain's music was being released through Danzig's Plan 9 record label, but he was finding

that the operation was becoming to big to manage on his own. However, Danzig refused to ditch Eerie Von. Around

the signing with Rubin, Damien left the group and was replaced with John Christ. The new band planned to record

a 3rd LP, called "Samhain Grim", but when London May was fired from the band the project was scrapped and the

band was reconstituted as Danzig. In 1990, Danzig and Von completed work on five tracks meant for "Samhain

Grim" which ended up constituting the first half of "Final Descent" (the album was originally rounded out by a

remixed version of the band's "Unholy Passion" EP).

We're rather amazed when we take the care that we do with the vinyl we sell, and then see another seller make more money selling the exact same item
in worse shape, and their picture shows the record out of its cover and out of its sleeve lying on a surface!  I believe the "problem" is that we try to describe every item
in detail so that you'll know exactly what you're getting.  Many sellers will simply say "excellent" "mint" or "great", having no idea what those terms mean in relation to the Goldmine Grading System.  We tell you exactly what you're getting, and even if it's been to hell and back, we still treat it like it's a piece of your mother.  Sometimes it's the detail that screws things up, I think.  If we were vague, like most sellers, you'd just see the name of the band, the title, and a picture, and you'd buy it.  Oh well.

Many sellers seem to have a disregard for the items they're selling and only care about making their pictures look pretty.  We only care about the pieces we sell.  And you.  So you'll see that the records are displayed IN THEIR ORIGINAL SLEEVES, with just a hint of the vinyl showing so that you can see what color they are.  If you want to see the vinyl pulled from its sleeve and resting on a dusty surface, look at someone else's auction or blog and then come back to our page and buy our copy in PERFECT SHAPE.
