SANDY DENNY  The North Star Grassman and The Ravens (1971) 

EX+/EX    ISLAND ILPS 9165

Here is an overall excellent (EX) condition copy of the sought after 1971 UK 1st pressing of former Fairport Convention's vocalist Sandy Denny's folk rock classic "The North Star Grassman and The Ravens.

The dead wax matrix numbers are :

Side 1   ILPS 5165 A 1U            Side 2    ILPS SI65 B 1U 

THE VINYL

The appearance and overall condition of the flat and nicely weighted vinyl is overall excellent (EX). Each side is bright and retains its black sheen. Only under closer inspection and under bright light are there just a few fine surface markings and paper scuffs visible. There are no 'feelable' marks. Side A is excellent plus (EX+). Side B is graded slightly lower at excellent (EX) as there is a light scuff on the vinyl, although it does not sound or affect play in any way

THE LABELS

The labels are near mint (NM). With black text upon the white/pink rimmed label showing the iconic Island 'palm tree' logo. There are no marks or blemishes other than the slightest evidence of spindle hole marks

THE SLEEVE

The condition of the non-laminated gatefold outer sleeve is excellent plus (EX+). There is just some very light wear to the corners. The spine is well preserved. There is a record sticker in the top right hand corner on the back. The inner gatefold is excellently preserved with only the lightest evidence of handling.

THE SOUND

The quality of the stereo audio is excellent (EX). Lovely tone and clarity throughout, even at higher volume. No repeats, sticks or clicks and barely any surface noise - just the hint of some very mild background during a couple of the quieter moments but this is non-intrusive and very trivial. Every track plays brilliantly, from "Late November" which starts Side A right through to "Crazy Lady Blues" that ends Side B. 

Comes with the original inner sleeve with no rips or tears, but does show some age browning. Note: The record will be posted using a plain white replacement inner sleeve for shipping purposes in order to protect the original.

PLEASE NOTE REGARDING LP RECORDS

We always do EVERYTHING POSSIBLE to grade our LP records accurately, but you must bear in mind that unless you are buying a vinyl record that  is SEALED, or in NEAR-MINT condition, there will always likely be some type of surface sound, or background noise somewhere on the vinyl, better known as pops or light crackling. If an LP has been played a couple of times, it can never be perfect. This is especially noticeable in classical and jazz records, which have quiet passages. You are buying vinyl LPs because they sound better than CDs, however the pops and crackling come with an LP.
