These Japanese hi-grade , virgin-vinyl, extended-dynamic range vinyl pressings - while they were imported  in the 1970's and early 1980's - were audiophile and connoisseur delights  (we   have not  seen some of these titles in circulation in years – some of them are highly collectible). These majestic recordings received an  intense, meticulous and laborious treatment like very few other recordings did.   They are characterized by the boosted dynamic and frequency range, almost compulsive attention paid to the fine detail and integrity of the pressing and highest quality  of the material. Many of  these recordings remain unsurpassed, delivering music  reproduction as close to  the actual recording session as possible. In the best tradition of some of the major Japanese corporations -  such as RCA Victor Co. (Nippon),  Warner-Pioneer Corporation of Japan or EMI-Toshiba Corporation  -  the sound quality of the Japanese pressings is, generally,  truly extraordinary - much better, we firmly believe, than the corresponding first pressings of the albums in question.

THE RECORD COMES IN A METICULOUSLY REPLICATED ORIGINAL COVER (JAPANESE COVERS OF THIS ALBUM HAVE A DISTINCT CHROME-LIKE HUE, MAKING THEM LOOK DISTINCTLY DIFFERENT  FROM THE AMERICAN PRESSINGS, WHICH ARE PRINTED ON PLAIN PAPER SLICKS), DELICATE PVC-INNER SLEEVE  RESEMBLING FINE (RICE PAPER) INNER SLEEVE, LYRICS AND ALBUM  DATA INSERT. SORRY, THE ALBUM DOES NOT COME WITH "OBI"(JAPANESE PAPER RIBBON WITH ALBUM INFO, USUALLY WRAPPED AROUND THE COVER).

This is an increasingly rare ORIGINAL QUADRAPHONIC pressing of this classic 60's latin-psych rock album which sold millions of copies and became a rock sub-genre of its own. Truly one of the most important and visionary Rock albums.

Quadraphonic recordings of the early 70's may have died an ignoble death because of their hopeless incompatibility with the existing stereo and mono equipment (they can be played on stereo equipment, but not to the full effect) yet, they live on in the hearts of the collectors, and for good reason: some of the finest audiophile recordings ever made - whether rock, soul or classical, were released on some of these, little known and poorly advertised, albums. And, what a gorgeous presentation these recordings are: Sheets of sounds, cascades of orchestration ranging from pianissimo to crescendo, textures which do not exist in any audio- or virtual space and channel separation that is truly a jaw-dropping experience.

Drawing on rock, salsa, and jazz, Santana recorded one imaginative, unpredictable gem after another during the 1970s. But Caravanserai is daring even by Santana's high standards. Carlos Santana was obviously very hip to jazz fusion -- something the innovative guitarist provides a generous dose of on the largely instrumental Caravanserai. Whether its approach is jazz-rock or simply rock, this album is consistently inspired and quite adventurous. Full of heartfelt, introspective guitar solos, it lacks the immediacy of Santana or Abraxas. Like the type of jazz that influenced it, this pearl (which marked the beginning of keyboardist/composer Tom Coster's highly beneficial membership in the band) requires a number of listenings in order to be absorbed and fully appreciated. But make no mistake: this is one of Santana's finest accomplishments.

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL AS STRONG NEAR MINT. The original luster is very much intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)          The record is pressed on a RELATIVELY  thick, inflexible vinyl. This is NOT a thin, flimsy ('dynaflex' type),  vinyl, but not the thickest, most rigid vinyl, either.

(c)           The record comes in a hi-grade MFSL PVC inner sleeve, which has - apparently with success - shielded the record from the harmful impact of elements over many years!

(d)          Quad pressing of this title is much rarer, and by far more  preferable to its stereo counterpart. The mix is more natural, humane, "organic" and in some instances (we cannot guarantee) the mixes may be somewhat different than on the stereo version. We estimate that stereo copies of this album outnumber quad by a ratio of at least 15:1.

(e)           The album comes with the original  Japanese-only insert

(f)            Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!
