Description
This is a fine original U.S. pressing copy of the debut LP by Santana, released in 1969. Combining leader Carlos Santana's thickly distorted guitar with an ace Latin rhythm section, the group created a new sound that was both popular and influential. The debut was largely instrumental; highlights among the numbers with vocals are the group's first two singles, "Jingo" (adapted from a song by Nigerian percussionist Olatunji) and "Evil Ways" (a cover of a 1967 recording by NYC Latin percussionist Willie Bobo). (For those into the minutiae, the songwriting credits for both singles were incorrect on the side 1 label of the initial pressing, and on the next pressing, only one credit was corrected. On this copy, both credits are correct, indicating that it is from a subsequent pressing.) The jacket is close to pristine with light creasing in the corners (M-). The disc is clean with a little light scuffing, and plays with some light surface noise audible in the quieter passages on side 2 (side 1 plays M-) (EX+). The record comes with the original label inner sleeve.
I’m in the process of selling off a large personal collection amassed over two decades. All discs have been stored in plastic lined inner sleeves separate from their jackets. The jackets have been stored in plastic sleeves. I have play graded (spot checked) discs except where otherwise noted.
