ON THE UNDERGROUND ROAD aka DIRE No. 10 Lp by THE SANTUCCI SCOPPA GROUP produced by PIERO UMILIANI arrangements by GIGI SANTUCCI. Original Italian pressing on the DIRE label (FO 342), from 1972. Incredible Lp by the cult musicians, recorded in Rome, June 1971 and released with iconic picture sleeve artwork, May 1972. For us, the funkiest and most stylish '70s jazz / hard bop / modal / exotic / fender rhodes session from Italy. Superior recording and production and also the same session as the Olimpiade Library for Umiliani's Sound Work Shop SWS 111 label (also relased in '72). Every track is superb with several club tunes for DJs. Amazing use of instrumentation filtered in the studio by Umiliani for a stoned / psychedelic and aggressive sound. Top of the top jazz arrangements led by the formidable Santucci Scoppa horn section. This is their session with the spiritual jazz / exotic modal masterpiece BARBAGIA (the theme with the weird Sardinian reed instrument) but we have recorded several other killer trax for our soundclip too. Desirable item with tunes like TIP CAT / TANGANA / JOOK / GENERATIONAL GAP / ON THE UNDERGROUND ROAD / OVER HAND / CAMEL WALK etc that will blow away any discerning jazz collector for sure. Immaculate playing with fantastic solos / funky breaks and pounding beats. Franco D'Andrea plays fender rhodes with heavy studio FX and also classic piano. There's also 3 studio drummers on this recording including Gegé Munari of Piero Umiliani Today's Sound Library on the Liuto label and the Amedeo Tommasi / Dino Piana Canopo Library session. Vinyl is in shiny, strong VG++ condition (closer to M-) with a few light scuffs and hairlines. Some light surface noises. Booming production sound. The laminated sleeve is close to M- condition with minimal wear, if any. Camera flash glare to sleeve and label photos. Rare Lp!!!
