THIS IS PERHAPS, SARAH VAUGHAN’ FINEST PERFORMANCE IN THE STUDIO. A DISC OF RARE PERFECTION, AS SHE ATTAINS THE FIRST PEAK OF EMOTIONAL AND TECHNICAL CONTROL WHILE BACKED BY SYMPATHETIC MUSICIANs WHO NEVER TRY TO OVERPOWER BUT COMMENT AND PROD.
ROY HAYNES WITH BRUSHES IS A REVELATION IN TASTE AND ABILITY TO MAKE THE KIT EMERGE WITHOUT OBTRUDING. LISTEN TO HIS SOLO ON LULABY OF BIRDLAND OR HIS SMOOTH EPHEMERA RHYTHMIC COHESION ON SEPTEMBER SONG.
THE FACT THAT THE 24 YEAR OLD CLIFFORD BROWN IS HERE BACKING THE 30 YEAR OLD VAUGHAN ADDS REAL TENSION TO THE MIX, BUT HE NEVER INTRUDES AND DEMONSTRATES HOW WHAT A TRULY GREAT PLAYER CAN DO IN THE ROLE OF SIDE MAN, NOT MAKING THE SONG HIS BUT MAKING THE SONG HERS.
HERBIE MANN AND PAUL QUINICHETTE ARE FINE ADDING COLOR AND SUBSTANCE WHILE VAUGHAN’S PIANIST JIMMY JONES KNOWS EXACTLY HOW TO PHRASE EACH CHANGE TO BENEFIT AN COMPLIMENT THE PRESENCE, EMOTIONAL IMPACT AND MAGIC OF VAUGHAN’S VOICE..
THIS DISC IS MAJESTIC SOME OF THE GREATEST VOCAL (PACE SCHUMANN) MUSIC EVER PRODUCED.
FORTUNATELY this disc is also beautifully recorded, and this particular one is in near mint condition. Full shine, quiet and clean with almost no marks or extraneous sounds. I heard a few little ticks from dust but the sound comes from an essentially quiet background without distractions. This disc offers an exceptional listening experience, not just for its age but without reservation for vinyl.
The sleeve is excellent almost near mint except for a couple of chips on the upper and lower edges, the cover is neat the b&w still has fine contrast. Even if there is some aging and bin wear its maintains the joy of ‘look at this cover’. The back of the disc is the same with little to fault. As I said the chipping and dings on the edges entry top and bottom, but not the spine are the minor diminishments.(Please look at the photos)
This is a truly great disc and a real collectors copy, it plays superbly (I just finished listening to it). I do not think you can find one like this at any price.
I listen to the entire record before I list. I am not one of those sellers who is looking at the disc under a 500 watt bulb worried about how to describe scratches. I am interested letting you know how the disc looks, what the obvious and less obvious marks are but more importantly I am interested, like you, in how the disc sounds. Many discs were printed poorly or have surface noise that is not visual, to be locked into how many surface scuffs and scratches is to only have half of the story.
I do not list junk (unless I make it clear) if it is less than excellent I will not hide my evaluation. I have spent 30 years as a musician,educator, and engineer, if I am selling discs it will be on my terms of excellence. I spend more time with the discs that most sellers.
I am a fair grader and my system is unforgiving, I use an Ortophon 2 red with an Audio-Technica 1240 (tracking 1.8g), a Marantz pm 5005 and Bowers and Wilkins speakers, little escapes unheard). Before you purchase a record from me I want you to know as close as is possible (listening is a subjective art) what you are getting.
I am including including the original inner sleeve but this disc deserves better, so I have placed the disc in a MOFI anti-scratch, anti-static master sleeve.
I ship usps priority 2 day, the US post built the country, it is our most treasured institution we should all support it against efforts to privatize and destroy it.
