Always surrounding herself with first rate arrangers and sidemen, the 1963 sessions that made up "The Lonely Hours" pairs her with the sensational multi-talented Benny Carter. His astute charts, especially the take on Ellington's "Solitude" enhance the feelings of longing, loneliness, heartache and lost love while Vaughan's patented phrasing and interpretations sell the mood.
