This record is in EXCELLENT/VG+ condition! [the layer of lamination has been removed from the front cover probably causing the smokey/cloudy look around the cover's edges. The back cover looks fantastic! There are NO splits or tears. the spine printing is neat and well-centered. The vinyl has good luster with some surface wear.] This record PLAYS VERY GOOD with surface noise that varies between being not as loud as the music to being as loud as the music. However, it is NEVER louder than the music. With this in mind, this album is still capable of providing a satisfying listening experience. SURE TO PLEASE!
RECORD HISTORY: This album is generally regarded as the very best from the early career of MISS SARAH "SASSY" VAUGHAN. She always cited it as her personal favorite and it represents the only studio collaboration between her and Jazz Master CLIFFORD BROWN. This LP is highly sought after by BOP JAZZ and JAZZ VOCALS collectors. In addition to CLIFFORD BROWN, SASSY is backed by PAUL QUINICHETTE, HERBIE MANN, JIMMY JONES, JOE BENJAMIN and ROY HAYNES! This record is perfect for BOP JAZZ COLLECTORS!
ARTIST BIOGRAPHY: Possessor of one of the most wondrous voices of the 20th century, Sarah Vaughan ranked with Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday in the very top echelon of female jazz singers. She often gave the impression that with her wide range, perfectly controlled vibrato, and wide expressive abilities, she could do anything she wanted with her voice. After she won an amateur contest at the Apollo Theater, she was hired for the Earl Hines big band as a singer and second vocalist. When lifelong friend Billy Eckstine broke away to form his own orchestra, Vaughan joined him, making her recording debut. Vaughan was one of the first singers to fully incorporate bop phrasing in her singing, and to have the vocal chops to pull it off on the level of a Parker and Gillespie. It was her 1946-48 selections for Musicraft that found her rapidly gaining maturity and adding bop-oriented phrasing to popular songs. Signed to Columbia where she recorded during 1949-53, "Sassy" continued to build on her popularity. A 1950 octet (including Miles Davis) showed that she could sing jazz with the best. During the 1950s, Vaughan recorded pop material for Mercury, and jazz dates (including this memorable collaboration with Clifford Brown) for the label's subsidiary, EmArcy. She was a masterful scat singer and was able to out-swing nearly everyone (except for Ella).

Cover has ring wear and vinyl has noticeable surface wear. Should play with NO surface noise during the music. VG+: average used record, looks OK, plays OK. No surface noise is noticeable during the music. Some surface noise is possible during quiet passages. VG: Cover shows more than normal wear and vinyl shows more than normal wear.
