SARAH VAUGHAN-S/T 1955 EMARCY RECORDS MONO COPY LP MG 36004 IN A SOLID VG+ CONDITION. MOSTLY CLEAN VINYL!! When it comes to the greatest voices in hard bop jazz, Sarah Vaughan's name rises to the top of every discussion and it is on full display on this amazing debut in this auction. Accompanied by the trumpeter Clifford Brown and Paul Quinichette on tenor sax, Vaughan shines like a beacon throughout this recording. I know this is understating it, but she can flat out belt a vocal when needed and reverse course to be just as dramatic as the music behind her. Her intonation is impeccable. Some of the standout cuts include Lullaby Of Birdland, April In Paris, Jim, Embraceable You & September Song. All fans of the legendary singer need this one in their collection, it's an essential!!
Ok, bear with me on this description as I want the buyer to know exactly what they are getting. The record is visually scratch free as I cannot see any blemishes on either side. But, the record does have a hazy look to it that did not wipe off with a standard cloth cleaning. I do not have solutions here that may take the haze away but regardless of the haziness, the record plays well throughout. The cover has a glossy sheen to the front with mild wear along the edges and mild rubs on the corner. There is some yellowing / aging on the perimeter(see picture). The back has the same very light yellowing / aging. I graded both the record and the cover lower than I normally would because I know jazz aficionados have a higher standard to their purchased items. The original plastic inner sleeve is intact. A fantastic buy!!
