Bemerkungen / Comments:

This is the first official release of Satin Whales second album Lost Mankind, originally released in 1975 on Telefunken - DECCA`s German rock sub-label Nova Records. Satin Whales first album Desert Places had been released in 1974 on Brain and Lost Mankind shows the band refined and in best shape. Satin Whale hailed from Cologne - Bonn region and were founded in 1971 by Thomas Brück (bass and vocals), Horst Schättgen (drums and vocals) and extraordinary keyboarder Gerald Dellmann. The band was complete in 1972, when Bonn based super-guitarist and multi-instrumentalist Dieter Roesberg joined them. With a new drummer Wolfgang Hieronymi, who left the band after the first album, Satin Whale recorded Lost Mankind at the famous Windrose Studio in Hamburg. With the second album the further development of the bands´ sound to a more symphonic style with a corresponding high demand on melody and production was distinctly audible. Great vocals by American guest vocalist Ken Traylor along with alarming guitar wails and resounding Hammond Organ characterized the musical style. Occasional flute playing by Roesberg reminds slightly to Jethro Tull. According to Dag Erik Asbjornsen Satin Whale offered good-quality heavy progressive rock. According to Steve and Alan Freeman (The Crack In The Cosmic Egg) Satin Whale was influenced by many of the bands that had preceded them: Jane, Sahara, Os Mundi,, blending powerful rock ballads with dramatic instrumentals that featured classical and jazz elements and a notable comparison with Camel in the use of keyboards and flute. Lost Mankind is a rather essential album of German rock in the mid-seventies. Vinyl album comes with story and was remastered from the recordings out of the archive of Warner Music Germany. Don´t miss this great album.
