SAVAGE RESURRECTION :  Savage Resurrection

LP ~ MERCURY ~ 1968 ~ First Issue ~  SR 61156 ~ Stereo ~ Light blue Promo labels

VINYL : Excellent (EX/VG++) :  Side 2 has a few strictly cosmetic, light surface marks but they do not seriously affect play. Side 1 looks great. Heavy, black & shiny, this LP was not spun often & has been well-preserved over the decades in an audiophile sleeve.

COVER : Very Good plus (VG+): Minor ring wear with faint white spotting. Very vivid colors, front & back.  Spine intact & legible. Top seam has a six inch split starting at the opening edge. Bottom seam has a two inch split at the edge and a small split in the center. Minor corner wear. Opening edge fairly sharp, bottom shows wear. Overall, an above average cover that shows a bit of age. Still in collectible shape, this is a Classic Psychedelic cover (with a freaked out collage on the back) that screams 1968 !!

INNER SLEEVE:  Original black & white generic late-sixties Mercury sleeve, EX.

LABELS : Rare light blue Mercury with promo info.
Very Sharp with a few faint spindle marks on Side 2 label.

 Here is a rare original promo copy of the self-titled debut by this West Coast Psych quintet... Their one & only LP... Extremely fuzzed out guitars, no keyboards... Each side ends with a long jam... Typical stoned-out lyrics (not too deep)... Slightly dated, but a true late-60s artifact... Matrix #s in the dead wax both end in "M-1"... Highlights include : "Thing in 'E' ", "Remlap's Cave Part 2", "Fox is Sick" & the slammin' guitar rave-up "Appeal to the Happy"... Get Resurrected !!

A SIMPLE VINYL GRADING SYSTEM :

Mint: Still Sealed/Unplayed/Unopened
Mint minus (M-): New and Possibly Unplayed ; a rarely used grade.
Near Mint (NM): Like-new, with little or no visible wear; very collectible.
Near Mint minus (NM-): almost like-new, perhaps very slight signs of age, play or wear that are strictly cosmetic.
Excellent (EX) Very Good double-plus (VG++): Way above average, very nice, no serious flaws; played, not abused.
Very Good plus (VG+): An above average used LP; a few visible surface marks or paper scuffs; slight surface noise.
Very Good (VG) : An average used LP, far from perfect; a few light scratches. Some noise; plays through, no skips.
Very Good minus (VG-) : Reveals lots of wear when viewed or spun but is not actually defective or warped.




LP Cover grading is a much less exact, more subjective science. Generally, the truly collectible grades range from Mint to Excellent (VG++) depending on general wear. Main cover flaws such as split seams or spine splits, ring wear, cut or bent corners, hole punches, writing, water damage etc. should always be mentioned in a proper auction listing. All records are professionally sight-graded, sometimes play-graded. Keep in mind, used LPs are very rarely found in actual "Mint" condition. Proper record grading involves skill, knowledge & honesty, not wishful thinking.
