SAVOY BROWN RAW SIENNA EXCELLENT SKL 5043

This is my copy of Raw Sienna that I bought new from the legendary Musicland at 44 Berwick Street Soho in the first week of release. The Matrix / Runout numbers are Side A: XZAL-9575.P-1W and Side B: XZAL-9576.P-1W. I am always a bit reluctant to make claims about the condition of my albums as it is very much based on an opinion in the ear of the beholder, as it were. However, in this case I’m going out on a limb and, using the Record Collector grading system, I’d say it was EXCELLENT. It shows almost no signs of having been played, and there is very little lessening in sound quality.  Even the usual vinyl hiss and crackle between tracks are hardly noticeable. The disc retains its deep, black vinyl sheen, is clean and glossy and the overall sound is still amazing. It lays flat on the turntable and plays well without the needle sticking or jumping. The labels show minimal signs of use, have no writing and there are no visible spindle scratches. Until 1970 I only ever played my albums on a Garrard Sp25 Mk11 with a Sonotone 9TAHC cartridge and from 1970 onwards on a Pioneer PL12D with a Shure N75 ED-T2 cartridge and stylus, tracking at 1.5 grams which I continue to use today – although the stylus has been replaced regularly.

The album’s pressed on heavyweight vinyl and the unlaminated gatefold sleeve has some very light wear to some edges but otherwise is in very good condition with the colours still very bright, there isn’t any writing, taping or stickers and the spine is firm and totally legible. The sleeve is still bright and glossy in very good condition with no tears or splits but there is a slight impression where the top edge of the record sits.

The record is still in the original blue and white polylined inner sleeve which shows through the with "stereo/mono" indicator hole on the back. I will also include the original plastic outer, it still fits tightly and has successfully kept the dust off for all these years.

 If you haven’t heard it on vinyl or don’t own a copy this could be for you. It certainly doesn’t sound forty-six years old. Even if you don’t have a record deck and can’t play it, this album is a lovely piece of genuine memorabilia from a bygone time that changed the world and would grace any collection. I’m not a dealer of any sort, but am just downsizing and having to clear things out. You could accuse me of cashing in – but, when you’re surviving on a poxy pension, you have to take every opportunity I’m starting it at a reasonable price so a genuine fan or collector can enjoy it without paying rip off prices. I’m gradually clearing out my 300+ L.P.’s but, because I feel duty bound to listen to them all for any faults and produce an accurate assessment of the sleeve etc, it takes a long time to list each one. However, if there’s something that you are particularly interested in, feel free to ask if I’ve got it. After that I’ve got to work through 500+ singles and loads of other stuff!
