SAVOY BROWN - SHAKE DOWN

A very impressive condition and highly presentable copy of this increasingly rare and sought after 1967 UK very 1st press blues rock classic, on the coveted "deep groove" and unboxed DECCA record label, MONO, LK 4883

The dead wax matrix numbers are :

Side 1   ARL-7887-1A  with stampers "1" and "C" at 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock respectively, and with the "KT" tax code stamper at 12 o'clock

Side 2   ARL-7888-1A  with stampers "1" and "B" at 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock respectively, and with the "KT" tax code stamper at 12 o'clock

The appearance and overall condition of the completely flat and heavy vinyl is excellent plus (EX+). Both sides have retained a beautiful jet black lacquered sheen and in normal the record comes across as brand new - remarkable!. Even under a bright light, and with close scrutiny, it is difficult to detect any imperfections at all...just a couple of very fine, wispy superficial small marks on each side but you will need to look hard to find them. Clearly this record has been sparingly played and considering that it is now a 53 year antiquity it's condition is nothing short of amazing!

The labels are also excellent plus (EX+). Gorgeous condition labels with the silver DECCA logo and text upon the matt textured maroon/red background in wonderfully retained order. Under a bright light I can just make out a few small, faint spindle trails adjacent to the centre hole on each label. But apart from that, perfect! Note the circular groove on each label, indicative of very early UK Decca pressings.

The iconic front-side laminated Robert Stace outer sleeve is very good plus (VG+). Such an iconic sleeve, but fragile and prone to wear and tear and becoming hard to come across a UK 1st pressing such as this in excellent condition or better. The top and bottom edges are nicely firm with no scuffing and each corner remains a nicely defined right angle with minimal rubbing only. There is some minor laminate creasing at the bottom right corner and x5 1cm horizontal front-side laminate creases perpendicular and adjacent to the spine, one of which does impinge upon the spine and slightly weakens the spine at that point. There is also some mild, intermittent front side vertical laminate lifting adjacent to the spine. All text on the reverse side remains perfectly intact where there is also some very mild age discolouration and the merest hint of some mild ringwear. The photo on the front side, along with all of the colouring and definition, remains in tip-top condition. 

Finally, the quality of the audio is overall excellent plus (EX+). Impressive tone and clarity throughout, even at higher volume and on higher frequencies. No skips, jumps, repeats, repetitive clicks or intrusive background crackle/interference. I did notice x2 mild clicks on B4 and upon close inspection under a bright light discovered a speck of dust in one of the grooves, which once cleaned solved the issue completely; I mention this because, clearly, this record has been sparingly played and stored upright for decades so if you come across a mild click check for dust in the grooves...it's certainly not down to overuse or a scratch or scuff - there are none! Sit back and enjoy this album, with every track making for a great listen, in glorious MONO and wallow in the countless mesmerising guitar licks - what a great album, this is!

Comes with original poly-lined DECCA inner sleeve with the "British PAtent No...." and "Made in England" horizontal text, with no tears, splits or rips - just a little mild creasing towards the corners and some very mild age discolouration - and remaining 100% functional. Note that I always post the record in a new plain white inner sleeve in order to protect the original.

In summary a truly impressive condition and highly presentable copy (the highlights being the condition of the vinyl and quality of the mono audio reproduction) of this increasingly rare and sought after 1967 UK blues rock gem - a worthy addition to any vinyl collection and only continuing to gain in value.

On the subject of postage, I take great care in the packaging of all items, using a proper vinyl thick cardboard "crucifix" style mailer along with at least two thick cardboard stiffeners. I take great care in separating the record from the outer sleeve in order to help prevent sleeve damage in transit and I always insert the vinyl, outer sleeve and inner into a clear plastic sleeve, thus adding further protection.

Mint

The records itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items, such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

Excellent

The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and /or creasing.

Very Good

The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

Good

The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.

Fair

The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents are torn, stained and/or defaced

Poor

The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents are badly damaged or partly missing.

Bad

The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler
