Description
This is another sale from my collection of classical records, which includes early stereo rarities on Decca, Columbia, HMV and RCA.
1967 recording of Uk Columbia SAX 2298/9 blue/silver label Donizetti “L’Elisir D’Amore”conducted by Tullio Serafin. Sleeve is a flip back sleeve. The matrix numbers engraved on the run-out are YAX 3357-4 YAX 3358-4 YAX 3359-2 YAX 3360-7.
Grading
Visually graded the vinyl under a task lamp. Would grade SAX 2298 side 1 as excellent, couple of small faint hairline scratches. SAX 2298 side 2 has what looks like a water mark on the vinyl so would grade as VG. The same on SAX 2299 side 2 and there is a small 1/2 cm scratch also so VG. SAX 2299 side 1 is graded as Excellent. It plays well on my Linn Sondek, no skips or jumps. SAX 2298 Side 1 has a few pops in a few places. SAX 2298 Side 2 has one place with a few pops. SAX 2299 Side 1 has two pops in one place. Side 2 has some background hiss in some of the quiet passages. Overall the grading would be VG. Sleeves are in VG + condition, no rips or tears but some wear to top and bottom edges. One inner sleeve had “March 1962” written on it in pen.
Note that record will be posted in a cardboard record mailer. Sleeve will be in a plastic sleeve, separate from the record and inner sleeve. Record and inner sleeve will be in a card sleeve.
