SAX 2315 DAVID OISTRAKH Beethoven Violin Concerto UK BLUE/SILVER 1st PRESS EMI
Beethoven, Violin Concerto.
David Oistrakh and the French National Radio Orchestra Conducted by Andre Cluytens.Early UK pressed EMI Columbia stereo LP, SAX 2315.
Earliest heavy duty pressing with blue/silver labels, housed in heavy duty card sleeve.
Vinyl is still highly glossy but does display a couple of slightly more visible light hairline scratches and other less visible hairline scuff marks.
Overall playback grades around VG minus. A small scratch causes mid-level ticks and some scuffiness until the first tutti. Thereafter this side is a little ticky but clean beneath and not distorted. Side two plays much cleaner but is still ticky in places, although much less frequently.
Labels are clean and undefaced.
Original "Emitex" inner sleeve clean and tidy.
External sleeve around G. This mainly due to edge wear however. The main panels of both sides are clean and tidy bar some light toning and handling smudging to rear panel. Top seam is worn through near whole length from spine, but is still intact at the area above the "stereo" logo. Bottom seam also very worn and whitened with an area worn through near centre to a length of an inch or so. Spine is in better shape but has a few patches of surface loss which render some of the text unreadable. Top and bottom corners worn at entry side with a touch of splitting.
All in all an imperfect issue and opening price set to reflect this.
Note that postage costs are slightly higher than usual as these early SAX issues with heavy card sleeves weigh substantially more than most LPs.
Given that this LP is far from mint I do not expect the heady heights of a four figure sum. However, should the winning bid be excessive I will send tracked/insured at no extra cost.
