2 copies, Beethoven Violin Concerto David Oistrakh conductor Cluytens pressed on Columbia labels.

ONE copy is the preferred stamper YLX 1006-2 / YLX 1007-16  (also stamper '1' at 9 o'clock in dead wax ) and issued on Turquoise label SAX series,

  VG++LP  some static near edges, a few light repetetive tics first 2 minutes side 1

33CX 1672 mono blue gold OTHER SECOND copy included in auction rated (VG lp (2 fine scratches near edge prodeuce 2 minutes of soft tics)/VG ++++++cover very straight and clean) is an original UK Press from the -1n/-1n mono  stamper 33CX 1672.

IT IS ACTUALLY A GREAT COPY AFTER YOU GET PASSED THE SCRATCHES IN THE OPENING THREE MINUTES, BUT I HAVE NOT SUPPLIED A SOUND SAMPLE HERE, AS IT IS NOT REGARDED AS THE MAIN AUCTION ITEM I just include it in this sale as it has the correct UK cover you all recognise.

BACK TO DISCUSSION ON THE SAX PRESSING.

The experts seem to think the -2/-16 stamper had less surface noise than the therefore not preferred -6/-21 edition sax issue.  

  AS YOU ARE NOW starting to be aware therefore, the 

sound sample is from the LP you are really bidding on, which is

OF A VERY EARLY PANCAKE  PRESSING FROM THE ORIGINAL UK STAMPERS, BUT PRESSED AT EMI AUSTRALIA.  

IF YOU want to compare a UK -6/-20 STAMPER which I sold for 118GBP to a happy client, to this -2/-16 STAMPER version, then pause the autoplaying sample above, and press

"PLAY " on this one to hear what a bargain the OZ pressing really is.

I sold a genuine turquoise  UK pressing last year (stampers -6,-20)that was scratched and crackly AND THE COVER WAS FAIRLY ROUGH.  The sound sample is attached, above and you can hear how much background noise is involved in a 118GBP sale....If you have them paused at about the same spot on the beginning of each sample you can compare the two different matrix mixes, you can pause each sample and compare sections side by side. It works well for first minute and half then the previously SOLD item has a different sample section due to a scratch I was demonstrating).

  MY COMMENT is, even though you are listening on a tinny computer at a low 192kbps sample rate, you can HEAR the richer fuller tone of the OZ pressed -2/-16 stamper in this sale, compared to the UK sold item in the above sample sample, Try listening around the 1 minute 10 second time in the samples, just after the opening refrain, where the string section  and timpani kick in..........  I think you will agree it sounds fantastic in comparison to the previously sold UK pressed 6/20 stamper, hear for yourself.....

CAUTION, being a flat edged pressing , the OZ one has gained a couple of small tics in that opening minute, and  I can see just a few very small MARKS in the area producing the couple of light  repetitive tics. (NO edge protection from the cover scuffing, unlike the later pressing having the raised lip edge)  That's why I rate it VG++. THESE THICK PANCAKE PRESSINGS WITH THE OZ VERSION OF THE STEREO STICKER ON THE COVER, ARE FEW AND FAR BETWEEN, AND CERTAINLY VERY EARLY OFF THE STAMPER SUPPLIED TO AUSTRALIA. I have only seen one other copy of this pressing pancake version, and as a mint copy I got 168GBP but it was being sold with a UK stereo pressing very badly scratched and rated as poor cover and lp.

OTHER EXAMPLES I HAVE SEEN IN AUSTRALIA HAVE BEEN THE LATER RAISED EDGE PRESSINGS, WHICH MAKE THIS A VERY EARLY PRESSING FROM THE AUSTRALIAN COPY OF THAT UK MASTER STAMPER. Due to the low volume of SAX pressings and sales in Australia, that may have been only a few thousand before switching to the raised lip edge pressing we are all used to.  .  

COVER CONDITION    OF OZ PRESSED, SAXO 2315, UNIQUE TO AUSTRALIA COVER, VG+++ The only fault is LIGHT START OF ringwear and cover is nice SLIGHTLY CREASED NEAR EDGES, no opening edge feathering, very clean. Only the very early oz covers also had the round stereophonic sticker, similar not the same as the UK sticker. This edition has one, ONLY ONE OTHER OZ sax 2315 I have handled had the sticker, AS PREVIOUSLY MENTIONED AND auctioned for 168GBP oct 2010

LP CONDITION of OZ Pressed Turquoise silver SAXO 2315, is vg++ nothing to report other than a bit of static 'rustle' in the opening minute both sides, only odd occasional pips and tics from some light scuffs/scratches, some repetitive in the opening two minutes, before the solo violin commences (listen to sound sample to satisfy yourself to its extent.

AND COMPLETES THE 9 MINUTE 6 SECONDS SAMPLE.

Some light static appears in the opening few rotations, the remainder of the 9 minute sample is recorded from the opening 4 minutes or so of side 2, both areas of the sampling is done near edge of LP as that is where most edge damage occurs from cover scuffs or needle drops. I don't think you will find cleaner offerings easily..

BE aware the sound samples talked about above (Including previous  sale of genuine UK SAX 2315) both accentuates treble (Hence more static crackle that you DON'T hear through your Hi Fi) and is low quality, but you get the idea.

Yes I have fully test played  these both after professionally washing them, and remember the main item on offer here is an AUSTRALIAN PRESSING, the UK pressing 33cx mono, has light scratches and regarded too damaged to be taken seriously as worth offering individually although it plays through the scratch areas with no needle skip at 1.5gm headshell and anti skate setting

the cover of the UK 33cx is regarded as vg+++++ and has only minor marks on reverse and no ringwear.

I thought someone  might like a less expensively priced 60's analogue pressing, as I am sure it will finish cheaper than a UK Pressing in similar sounding condition, but I think it is a wise investment as I have sold several OZ pressed SAX records to discrning buyers lately, and they ALL seem to like the quality especially in comparison to the price of a Genuine UK, and of course the OZ pressings are RARER as in the 60's we only had a population of around 12 million and not very many retail outlets to buy LP's from.
