SAX 2354 Beethoven Symphony 4 Columbia B/S Klemperer EX/NM SUPERB COPY

For sale is a Beethoven Symphony 4 (and the Consecration of the House overture) by the Philharmonia under Otto Klemperer. Columbia SAX 2354 on the original blue/silver pressing.

When inspected under good light, the disc visually grades as EX+/NM- (depending on how strict you want to be) - there are a couple of light marks that are probably fingerprint related, but no scratches or scuffs that I can see.

The original inner sleeve is as good as any ever are - a little yellowed with age but intact and without tears or significant creases.

The sleeve is in EX condition; there is a little damage to the rear flipback (less than 10mm square, still attached but unglued and creased) but the front is fine. There is minor and occasional laminate lift, but all is attached and the edges are good. The EMI sticker is attached, but has peeled very slightly to one edge.

Were this not a highly valuable and collectable record, I would not have described these minor blemishes at all. However, as a collector myself, I understand the importance of a full and accurate description.

EDITED TO ADD (prior to any bids being placed): Following a request, I have test-played the record. I'm happy to report that in general it sounds as good as it looks. However, for completeness I will mention that there is some minor and occasional background hiss on the left channel only. This seldom occurs on side 1, but is a little more prevalent on the latter part of side 2. The volume of the hiss was significantly lower than the volume of the recording, and I initially only noticed in on the gap between movements on side 2. It in no way spoilt my enjoyment of the record (I probably wouldn't have noticed were I not specifically listening for any problems), but I would hate to mislead any potential bidders as to the condition of the record. There are no tics/pops/crackles that intrude on the listening experience. I consider that the record still merits a grade of EX+ for side 1 and EX for side 2. I have not had the record cleaned - it may be that a professional clean would remove this issue. I leave that to the buyer to decide. As above, I would not consider this deserving of mention were the record not especially rare and collectable.

My description is very detailed because, having myself bought over-graded records in the past, I really don't want the buyer of this record to have any feeling of disappointment whatsoever with what is nonetheless a wonderful item. Many sellers would simply list this as NM based on a visual description, and explicity state that no refund whatsoever would be provided to a disappointed buyer because of the occasional minor background hiss. I'm not a professional trader, but a collector who occasionally sells items (with happy buyers in the past, as my feedback attests) and my aim is that you get as much enjoyment out of this record as I have done.
