Description

This is a rare early Columbia 1st label (blue/silver) of this recording.  It features George Szell conducting The Cleveland Orchestra in symphonies by Schubert (No. 8 'Unfinished') and Beethoven (No. 8).  Sleevenotes on the back are by Klaus George Roy and include the text "Recording first published 1962".  The matrix numbers engraved on the run-outs are: YAX 1001-1 & YAX 1000-6.  The outer sleeve is the original Garrod & Lofthouse, flip-back, laminated on the front.  Disc and outer sleeve were both made in Britain.  The inner sleeve is early EMI printed paper / polythene liner that may not be original.  

The LP will be supplied with a protective 50g PVC sleeve.  The record will be packaged in a Defenda LP mailer made of corrugated cardboard, with additional bubble-wrap. (No charge for these.)

Condition of Disc The disc is flat and the playing surfaces are glossy and clean. As with all discs of this age, it would probably benefit from machine-cleaning. Centre labels are free of writing, sticky labels or stains; and show no signs of "squirreling" or spindle wear around the centre hole.  After the disc has been wiped with a damp cloth, it plays fine with only very occasional surface crackle in places.   Overall, I have graded the disc conservatively as ‘VG+’ (Record Collector).
Condition of Sleeve The 49 year-old sleeve is in "Excellent" condition (Record Collector), with only minimal shelf/handling wear at the opening and corners. There is negligible creasing, ring-wear or lifting of laminate and no writing, stains, tears or sticky labels.

International Postage The price shown is the actual cost of Small Packet International Signed-for postage including full insurance cover up to £46. Insurance cover up to £500 is available for an extra £2.50.  Economy postage at lower cost is available at buyer's risk.
