Description

Lovely condition copy of this rare 1961 release on Columbia Records (SAX 2520) with its original Turquoise and Silver label design. The Kroll Quartet (William Kroll and William Stone - violins; David mankovitz - viola and Avron Twerdowsky - cello) perform Beethoven's String Quartet No. 11 in F minor, Op. 95 and Paul Hindemith's String Quartet No. 3, Op. 22.

Condition is very fine. The sleeve is in near mint condition - clean and crisp with no tears, creasing or seam splits. At some point a previous owner has put a small piece of sticky tape across the opeining and this has left a hardly noticeable brown stain on the front sleeve and a more noticeable brown stain on the rear (unlaminated) sleeve. The spine has a tiny (less than 1cm) nick at the very bottom but is otherwise absolutely perfect.

The vinyl is also in excellent condition with no scratches, scuffs or abrasions. Playback is unaffected by any ticks, clicks or crackles; surface noise is extremely low and there is no distortion and no jumps or skips.

Although the Hindemith quartet may not seem to be a natural partner for the Beethoven, surprisingly it does not suffer too badly in comparison. For those of you unfamiliar with this rarely performed piece it is certainly worth hearing if only for the virtuoso cello cadenza of the final movement.
